Account Executive - Freight Forwarding

 

SUMMARY Business development of assigned region through selling company's services to businesses, industrial establishments, government agencies, and individuals by performing the following duties:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads.

 

Travels throughout assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders, and contacts with customers in sales office or by telephone.

 

Displays or demonstrates service and emphasizes salable features.

 

Develops rate structures and tariffs; and quotes prices and credit terms and prepares sales proposals for prospects and customer tariffs for business obtained.

 

Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of company's service and delivery commitments

 

Assists in the compiling of proposals in support of corporate and/or station sales efforts. 

 

Provides training, as necessary, to personnel to provide a greater understanding of customers’ requirements.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) plus 2 years work experience in sales with a freight forwarding firm; or five years related experience in sales with a freight forwarding firm.  Minimum of 6 months international sales & operations experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present information in writing and in person in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, service providers, and employees.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, financial reports, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical and unusual problems, and deal with a variety of complex or difficult situations where limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

 Other Qualifications

 

Position requires frequent travel.

Willingness to work beyond 8 hours.

Excellent organizational skills.

Effectively manage stress.

Able to work cooperatively and cohesively with others.

Typing (50 wpm) and keyboarding (CRT & PC).

Competent with a PC and Microsoft Word.

Familiar with Excel.
