OTR Truck Dispatcher

Qualified candidates must be able to work the following work schedule: Monday thru Thursday, 5:00 p.m to 5:00 a.m. Additionally, qualified candidates must be bi-lingual (English/Spanish) and be able to communicate, both verbally and written. General Summary The nature of this job requires an individual who is a team player, is detail-oriented, with excellent communication and time management skills. The ability to handle pressure and responsibility is a necessity. The ability to monitor and coordinate both equipment and freight flow in their assigned area, to generate revenue for the truck owner, agent, and company.   Principal Duties and Responsibilities   Monitor inbound equipment to assigned region. Interact with owners and drivers, monitoring their activity and learning about their needs. Interact with agents, assisting them with movement of freight. Monitor and update manifest w/ check calls, messages pertaining to load status and driver status based on current company policies and procedures. Assist agents with technical issues such as manifesting, posting loads, training and problem resolution. Proper execution of beginning of day processes, i.e., printing of inbounds. Responsible for the timely work order assignment to contract drivers. Real Time follow up on “check calls” with contract drivers on all load pickup and delivery’s. While in transit, follow up with driver to gain insight into destination time. Responsible to execute delivery instructions based upon appointment schedule required by customer. Insure deliveries and pickups are made on time. Maintain proper records and insure information, is executed timely and correctly. Adjust manifest history to insure actual loading is sequenced properly to accurately reflect loaded and empty history. Negotiate spot rates with customers and negotiate unit (independent operator) compensation up to a maximum of 78%. Input of contract drivers dispatch information into operating system database to ensure positioned against correct manifest. Initiate advances and 2nd advance up to pre-approved (40% of gross revenue) amount to drivers based on manifest revenue. Advances are issued via electronic card load or com-check. Job Requirements: Job Specifications   Must be an effective communicator (written and verbal) and possess strong interpersonal skills such as diplomacy, sensitivity, and tact. Must be innovative and creative in seeking solutions. Experience in OTR and long haul transportation industry with at least two years in operations and dispatch. Possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be dependable, hard working, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and have excellent recall for past events/situations. Works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Must be computer literate and have basic to intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs such as word and excel. In addition, working knowledge of an e-mail system is necessary. Must be experienced in communicating with contract drivers. Familiarity with weight laws, DOT regulations. Must have knowledge of Hazardous Materials regulations and be familiar with State and Federal safety laws. Working knowledge (comprehension) of Spanish or any other language that may be relevant to the operation and/or location is a required. Required to work a Saturday rotating schedule as well as taking on-call after hours emergency phone calls. High School diploma or equivalent required. Associates Degree in transportation preferred.
