Clearwire customers connect to the Internet using licensed spectrum, thus eliminating the confines of traditional cable or phone lines. Headquartered in Kirkland, Wash., the company launched its first market in August 2004 and now offers service in 16 states across the U.S. as well as in Europe.On May 7, 2008, Clearwire Corporation and Sprint Nextel Corporation entered into a definitive agreement to combine their next-generation wireless broadband businesses to form a new wireless communications company to expedite the deployment of the first nationwide mobile WiMAX network. In conjunction with this agreement Intel Corporation (through Intel Capital); Google Inc.; Comcast Corporation; Time Warner Cable Inc; and Bright House Networks have collectively agreed to invest $3.2 billion into the new company. Software Development ManagerClearwire is looking for a Software Development Manager to be directly involved in managing the design and development of application framework and web services related to our nationwide WiMax deployment. This key role on the Information Technology leadership team will help manage the design and deliver core components of the product suite by assuming responsibility of key elements and managing all phases of the software lifecycle. To meet Clearwire’s challenging development schedules and operational requirements, this position requires a highly motivated individual comfortable with rapid changes in direction and environment. The successful candidate will be customer oriented, results driven (i.e. metrics oriented) and passionate about building a cost efficient set of applications that meet the company’s growth and customer experience requirements. This position reports to the Director of E-Commerce.Responsibilities: • Effectively grow, manage, and lead the software engineering team• Manage the design and development of application framework and web services that are used by Clearwire’s E-Commerce suite• Leverage various teams and resources as necessary to maximize efficiency• Take ownership of major features and components of our sales, order entry, over the air activation, and customer My Account functions and expose these through external API’s• Help build out a scalable Internet platform to meet the infrastructure needs of our rapidly expanding customer base• Help drive efficient processes, design and coding standards for software development as well as perform code and design reviews• Build and maintain close relationships with internal customers and stakeholders to ensure efficient development processes are being followed and are on schedule• Ensure applications are designed to scale appropriately, support instrumentation objectives, rapid enhancement objectives and will provide superior user experiences• Assist with the improvement and practice of our development methodology to consistently enhance and predictably deliver product to customers• Motivate, mentor and collaborate with members of all technical teamsQualifications:• Multiple years experience as a Software Development Manager, Software Engineering Manger, Application Development Manager or related position managing technical teams with an ongoing desire to be hands-on driving project execution and change with a can-do attitude• Experience in several complete development cycles from specifications to software delivery following a proper software development lifecycle with an emphasis on rapid development methodologies• Specialized experience in service oriented architecture/web services, application frameworks, business object modeling, and persistence layers with emphasis on creation and design of these areas• Experience implementing mission critical Internet/web based application systems implementing best practices for software code development, re-use, and componentization• Experience with relational databases (mySQL, Oracle, Sybase, etc.); • Highly productive, customer centric, team player with excellent communication skills• Developer experience with a strong applied knowledge of Internet technologies and languages - Java, Servlets, JSP, JDBC, XML, XSD, SOAP, Tomcat/Apache, App Servers (JBoss, Weblogic, etc.), LAMP (PHP) development environment• Experience in distributed/multi-threaded systems and carrier grade website experience with an understanding of scaling issues for performance
