RECREATION MANAGER
The Recreation Manager is responsible for working with the Director of Community Services in the overall development, organization, and coordination of the Recreation programs. Manages and coordinates the operations of the Recreation Program. Oversees programs and activities for children, teens, adults and seniors including: team sports, tournaments, special events, health development, youth outreach, and Indigenous sports. Recruits, selects, manages, and evaluates recreation employees and volunteers as needed. The position serves the Viejas Recreation Advisory Committee by providing the necessary information required for recommendations and reporting results. Manages the gymnasium and all recreation facilities and assists in the development of new structures and sites as required. Manages recreation programs and activities, including those for team sports, tournaments, special events, health development, youth outreach, and Indigenous sports. Recruits, selects, directs, and evaluates recreation employees and volunteers as needed. Leads in the preparation of the Recreation Program budget and supporting information and operates recreation program within adopted budget guidelines. Manages the gymnasium and all recreation facilities and assists in the development of new structures and sites as required. Serves as the director of youth and adult sports leagues, working with managers, coaches, and officials to produce quality recreation opportunities. Researches the community’s requirements and interests with regard to recreation programs and makes recommendations for new and revised programs. Prepares and submits program reports, evaluations, inventories, and proposals to the Director of Community Services. Establishes and maintains cooperative planning and work relationships with the tribal communities and outlying communities serving the Viejas Indian Reservation. Serves the Viejas Recreation Advisory Committee by providing the necessary information required for recommendations and reporting results. Prepares and distributes recreational program flyers, pamphlets, posters, and other promotional materials. Conducts workshops and in-service training programs as needed. Maintains current and accurate records of assigned program units. Acts as Emergency Shelter Manager in time of crisis. Maintains a clean, safe, hazard-free environment within area of responsibility.Performs light housekeeping duties as needed, including dishwashing, wiping down tables, and taking out the trash.Performs all other related and compatible duties as assigned. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Recreation/related area required.Five or more years of experience working with children, preferably in the area of recreation, physical education, sociology, health, and/or a related area.Knowledge of team sports and sports terminology.Demonstrated skills in program development.Familiarity with Native American culture preferred.Demonstrated management/leadership experience, to include skills in consensus building.Working knowledge of Windows, Excel, and Word software programs. Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
