Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the graphic look and execution of Country Woman magazine from conception to completion. Responsible for ensuring that every page of the magazine maintains a consistent look and that all materials are sent to the prepress department (and ultimately to the printer) on time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Uses Macintosh-based software to design art and copy layouts for magazines and any additional Country Woman branded materials. Maintains current knowledge of new versions of software.Assists in the selection of photos and visuals to embellish stories. Scans photos.Participates in overall planning of printed product(s). Follows product through the prepress process. Assists with proofing scatters.Manages the workflow and traffic between departments for each project, communicating regularly with the editor, the photo studio and the prepress department and updating each accordingly.Works with photographers to set up specialty photos for features and added-value shots and spot art for various projects. Works with the Photo Studio to select props for photos. Makes vendor recommendations for finding materials to complete special projects.Designs products with creativity and a cooperative attitude toward constructive criticism from the project leader and marketers.Provides training to new employees as requested.Performs other duties as assigned, such as correcting type, helping other departments and creating illustrations, company graphics or corporate projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:College degree in Graphic Arts, Fine Arts or related field.3 to 5 years experience in graphic art and design.Strong working knowledge of Quark Xpress, Illustrator and Photoshop.Experience art directing photo shoots required.Good eye for color, page design and photo composition.A knowledge and appreciation of the country lifestyle and/or food related topics in order to understand the target audience.Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.Ability to meet project deadlines.Able to work effectively as part of a team as well as individually.Please apply online at http://www.rd.com/careersReader's Digest offers excellent benefits and professional growth opportunities.
