Editorial Assistant
This position is located at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, and requires an efficient, organized, and detail-oriented candidate who is able to multi-task and perform a wide variety of functions associated with publishing a journal. The successful applicant must have outstanding written and oral communication skills.
The successful candidate:
Ø Assists with the coordination of publishing a journal.
Ø Checks to make sure that the authors include all of the required elements with their article submission, and ensures electronic files adhere to established guidelines for contributors.
Ø Stores files as appropriate on the server and archival system.
Ø Provides final files to webmaster for posting.
Ø Manages and organizes active and inactive file cabinets.
Ø Keeps the reviewer list updated.
Ø Coordinates peer review process.
Ø Talks to and corresponds with high-level Department of Defense personnel, members of the academic community, and industry personnel.
Ø Tracks the status of manuscripts throughout the peer-review process.
Ø Prepares mass mailings and assists in the campus-wide distribution of the journal.
Ø Performs quarterly updates on masthead and web page information.
Ø Makes changes to document files using InDesign software package.
Ø Coordinates activities with other staff members under the direction of the managing editor.
Ø Proofreads documents and performs light edits in accordance to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, (APA), The Chicago Manual of Style, and other house and style manuals as directed.
Ø Processes subscriptions as needed.
Ø Copies and faxes documents.
Ø Picks up and/or delivers documents and electronic files.
Ø Provides administrative support, assisting with occasional mailings and operating recording equipment used during interviews.
Ø Ability to work diplomatically and politely with clients.
Salary: $19 per hour. Paid vacations and holidays.
