Princpal Software Engineer

Job Summary:

 The Principal Engineer seeks ways to maximize his/her contribution to the department and to the business through the timely execution of plans and objectives established by management.  The Principal Engineer provides technical leadership to the business through a personal example of commitment and product line ownership.

 Essential Functions:

Provide leadership to the business unit through analysis and implementation of new and emerging software development techniques and/or emerging software technologies. Direct the requirements gathering, requirement analysis, design, code, unit test and maintenance phases of software product development.  Key tasks include design & implementation of software modules per requirements defined in functional specifications. Ensure work-product is of high quality through the use of modern software design tools and techniques and the use of automated code analysis tools (i.e. path coverage, bounds checking, complexity metrics, et cetera). Participate in design and code reviews for the work-product produced by other software engineers.  Also develop system & functional test plans. Design and develop user interface components using C# for various MS-Windows operating systems (WinXp, Vista, and Windows CE), with an emphasis on visual appeal and user interface ergonomics. Develop or maintain a deep understanding of machine vision algorithms necessary to create easy-to-use operator interfaces for machine vision applications deployed in a factory environment. Develop or maintain a deep understanding of factory automation to create user interfaces with world class ease of use to deal with real world problems faced by users that vary from factory floor operator to controls engineer.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Possess a thorough knowledge of C#,.NET API,.NET memory management, performance optimization for a .NET application.  Preferably has extensive experience with ActiveX, COM/ATL and VisualBasic in background. Possess a fundamental understanding of Object Oriented software development, ideally in an agile process environment. Proven experience as the lead software architect on at least one large software project, ideally using C#/.NET. Possess a fundamental understanding of one or more of the following or more of the following: algorithm design, machine vision / image processing algorithms, TCP/IP or industrial communications. Work independently and provide direction to others on assigned projects. Proven ability to Plan, schedule, and coordinate the different phases of the work for assigned projects, ideally having done so team-wide for a large software development project. Evaluate, select, and apply creative problem solving techniques using input from more senior staff members when appropriate. Continually seek ways to maximize personal contribution to the business.  Excel at one or more of the core job requirements such as vision product technologies, customer applications, system architecture, and/or software development methodologies. Maintain a thorough familiarity and consistently practice policies and procedures relating to Company Software Development Methodologies and Product Quality objectives. Be a team player with excellent listening skills. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Ideally with a history of presentations (internal or external) on technical topics.

 Minimum education and work experience required:

Bachelors or Masters Degree in a related technical field (Computer Science or Engineering, Electrical engineering, etc.) or related discipline (Software Quality Assurance, Industrial Engineering, Physics). 10+ years experience as a Software Engineer, Computer Engineer.
