Post Date: August 27,2008 ACCOUNTANT V Salary: $52,742-$61,276 yearly All names will be removed from eligible lists one (1) year after eligibility is established. EDUCATION: Possession of a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting or related field such as finance or business administration OR registration as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Four years of experience as an accountant is required. Experience in governmental accounting and auditing, public accounting, internal auditing, and developing accounting policies and procedures is preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements; knowledge of spreadsheet software; knowledge of office practices and procedures; knowledge of personal computers including data processing software; oral and written communication skills; skill in performing mathematical computations; supervisory skills; analytical and organizational skills; problem solving skills; skills in planning, preparing, and performing accounting tasks; ability to read and interpret data processing printouts; ability to compile and maintain a wide variety of statistical and accounting records for internal and external use; ability to complete tasks in a timely manner under minimal supervision; and ability to work effectively and harmoniously with others. DUTIES: Under direction of the Accounting Manager to conduct financial analysis; to prepare fiscal reports, to update County accounting policies; to ensure that financial records are accurate and comply with generally accepted accounting principles; to ensure that information is processed in accordance with internal control principles; to reconcile accounting sub-systems to the general ledger; to analyze departmental operating statements and monitor budget-to-actual variances; to provide on-going technical support to departments; to prepare financial information in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, Federal and State Laws, administrative rules, county ordinances, grant regulations and other applicable requirements; to develop and implement written accounting procedures; to develop, recommend and implement improvements to both the accounting systems (manual or electronic); to perform special projects as assigned; to supervise staff is needed; and to perform other such duties as may be required. THE EXAMINATION is open to qualified residents of the United States. Appointee must establish residency in Milwaukee County within six (6) months of appointment and maintain residency during incumbency. This requirement impacts all positions authorized in Milwaukee County department of Human Services, Mental Health Division as well as other positions in County Service.
