Prevention Specialist
Phoenix House seeks a Prevention Specialist to provide prevention education to high-risk youth and families using research based curriculum. This position works with youth and families in low-income housing areas to strengthen parenting and family communication skills to reduce problem behaviors, delinquency and alcohol and drug abuse in children as well as improve school performance.
This position requires frequent local travel between service sites and may include evening or weekend hours.
Duties and Responsibilities:Presents, facilitates and co-facilitates various group, individual, family, and public education presentations.Promotes and utilizes research based curriculum as designated by the program contract for youth and/or families.Provides crisis intervention and referrals for participants as neededCoordinates and facilitates summer activities which include field trips, arts & crafts projects and sports activities.Provides youth supervision in all program activities. Responsible for accurate completion monthly reports and other documentation related to the progress of clients/participants in the program.Conducts pre-tests and post-tests on all participants as designated by the program contractCoordinates and develops community resources and referrals.Attends and participates in local school, community, staff and other meetings in accordance with program needs.
Qualifications - Education, Skills, and Experience:
· Degree in education, social work or related field preferred.
· Certified Prevention Specialist designation preferred
· LCDC, LPC, LMSW preferred
· Two years experience working with youth in chemical dependency prevention, intervention or treatment setting; At least one year experience working with families is also required for positions that will work with families
· Ability to demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills with youth, team members, parents and community contacts.
· Ability to effectively present material to facilitate learning and life skill development in youth
· Ability to effectively manage classroom while presenting educational material
· Ability to work with independently or in a team environment
· Proficiency in MS Office products and experience utilizing web-based programs
· Good organization and time management skills
· Valid Texas driver’s license
· Ability to effectively communicate in both Spanish and English is required
· Ability to model positive behavior.
