Position Description
Role: The Director of Operations is responsible for supporting the ministerial functions of Cornerstone Church of Cranberry (C3), helping the staff and lay leadership achieve faithfulness to our vision. The Director of Operations is chiefly a facilitator, a motivator, and an innovator. This position provides for the planning, organization, and communication required for C3 to move forward in our ministry. This person is the chief “tasker” of the ministry and operational teams as well as of the whole of the people called Cornerstone. Along with a dedicated support staff and volunteer leaders from the congregation, this lay administrator is responsible for lay leadership, financial affairs, facility management, human resources, communications, and other administrative functions as outlined below.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will:
U Be a strong, committed, and inspiring Christ-follower who has a theological perspective consistent with that of C3.
U Be a college graduate having experience and training in administration or a related field.
U Be a dedicated and proven team player.
U Have general management experience comparable to the scope of responsibilities outlined in this position description.
U Possess skills in leadership, strategic thinking, financial analysis, clarity of written and oral communications, interpersonal interaction with others, and ability to implement both difficult and simple activities. Must have proven supervisory experience.
U Be competent in the operation of office computer systems utilizing Microsoft software.
U Must have strong multi-tasking skills and be able to adjust priorities daily.
Main Responsibilities:
U Lay Leadership – Works with and supports the lay leadership of the church. This includes first and foremost the Leadership Team and also includes other ministry team leaders and members. Has ability and availability to provide resources and facilitate the ministries of other ministry and operational teams. Develop, maintain, and faithfully manage information to facilitate ministries on the part of the people in line with our vision.
U Professional Staff – Works with and supports the professional staff, providing administrative and programmatic support as required, while also serving as the chief coordinator of professional staff and their functions.
U Finance – Has major responsibility for managing the finances of the church. This includes leading the annual budgeting process, managing expenditures throughout the year, analyzing and reporting monthly financial results and supporting the stewardship efforts of the church, all in partnership with the Leadership and Finance Teams.
U Human Resources – Provides human resources services for the employees of the church (except for the pastor who is served by the Leadership Team). This includes the employment, supervision, and discipline of support staff, provision of employee benefits to all employees, and management of the payroll function. Also responsible for oversight and supervision of volunteer staff.
U Facility – Is responsible for property, facility and equipment acquisition and maintenance, custodial cleanliness, coordination of capital improvements, and maintenance of the facilities. Also manages the scheduling and utilization of the facility.
U Communications – Works with ministerial staff, volunteers, and others to implement a comprehensive communications plan for the church. Supervises staff that carry out this key function. Is chiefly responsible for all marketing functions.
U Administrative duties – Ensures that adequate telephone and computer systems are in place and operational; oversees website; and maintains the risk management program that includes provision of required insurance coverage, and training of staff and volunteers in fire and other disaster response; is key liaison between C3 and the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
U Other – As ministry is always developing and the needs of our community are rapidly changing, the Director of Operations will be someone who can grow with C3. Over time, some of these essential duties may fade and new ones may develop. The person in this position will be adaptable to that reality.
