We are actively seeking an Assistant Transportation Coordinator for our Greenville location. The Assistant Transportation Coordinator is an exempt position, under the supervision of the Greenville County Transportation Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements:
§ Assists in planning, directing and coordinating all agency transportation activities in Greenville County;
§ Supervises agency drivers, does related work as required.
§ Coordination of the agency transportation program subject to agency, federal, regional and state regulations. These duties require that the incumbent be highly knowledgeable regarding agency transportation policies, regulations and procedures.
§ Continuous public contact requiring the exercise of considerable patience, tact and judgment.
§ Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
§ Excellent computer skills.
§ Ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects, meet budget expectations, and meet time lines.
***Work is reviewed through conference, review of reports, and observation of the success of the program. In the absence of the Transportation Coordinator this position would assume all responsibilities of the day to day operations of the department.
Principal Activities:
Assist in administering agency’s Greenville County transportation program. Assist in the preparation of required agency transportation reports. Assist in the oversight of the daily scheduling process, ensuring that the schedules are efficient, timely, and meet the necessary needs of clients. Maintains departmental records and files. Maintains vehicle inventory list. Maintains schedule for vehicle maintenance and is responsible for carrying out an effective maintenance schedule. Ensures adequate personnel coverage to meet a 6 day per week program from 7AM to 7PM with adequate after hours on call personnel as well. Ensures that the drivers and other employees carry out all laws, regulations and policies governing client transportation. Conducts a continuous safety and accident prevention program, meeting with drivers periodically to discuss and to find ways of overcoming problems. Checks road and weather conditions and recommends to the Executive Vice President the ability of placing agency vehicles into service during inclement weather.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Develop, administer, manage, and monitor a division budget. Develop and administer policies, procedures, plans and activities and to monitor the performance of subordinates against measured established goals. Develop and administer operations and staff plans and objectives for the expedience and effectiveness of the specific duties of the position. Develop and implement long-term goals for the department in order to promote effectiveness and efficiency. Thorough knowledge of all applicable laws, ordinances, policies, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the job. Thorough knowledge of any changes in policy, methods, operations, budgetary and equipment needs, etc. as they pertain to departmental operations and activities. Assemble information and make written reports and documents in a concise, clear and effective manner. Strong organizational, management, human relations, and technical skills. Ability to use independent judgment and discretion in managing subordinates, including the handling of emergency situations, determining and deciding upon procedures to be implemented, setting priorities, maintaining standards, and resolving problems. Comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, procedures, and related information. Knowledgeable and proficient with computers. Read, understand, and interpret personnel and financial reports and related materials. Skill in the use of computers and other office equipment, test and diagnostic equipment, and maintenance equipment.
Acceptable Experience and Training:
BA degree and two years work experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Additional Requirements:
Possession of a valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
Within one (1) year of employment is required to successfully complete the standard first aid course as prescribed by the American Red Cross.
Within one (1) year of employment must successfully complete agency-approved courses in:
(1) Vehicle operation and maintenance
(2) Passenger assistance
(3) Defensive driving
Prior to being hired, the employee in-this class must pass a drug test and physical exam.
