Director Global Health Safety & Loss Prevention (HSLP)

 

The Director Global HSLP is responsible for leading the advancement of Newmont’s Safety Journey through HSLP Continuous Improvement.  Direct the refinement of HSLP Systems, lead the Audit Process and apply Risk Protocols associated with HSLP.  Through agreed applications of integrated Management Practices direct and ensure consistency of HSLP Systems, HSLP Processes and HSLP Risk Mitigation across the Corporation.

 

Key Activities

 

§ Lead the HSLP Continuous Improvement processes that supports the mapping of the Safety Journey and HSLP Business Plans

§ In alignment with the HSLP Governance, lead and manage the HSLP Audit and Operational Risk processes

§ Design and direct the linkages of Global HSLP systems and practices with identified risks and controls

§ Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of HSLP systems implementation including criteria for OHSAS 18001 certification

§ Lead, monitor and report against workplace safety culture across Newmont

§ Lead external/internal HSLP benchmarking activities

§ Lead and direct the global HSLP educational programs and linkages with relevant programs into HR Learning and Development (L&D) modules

§ Utilizing the integrated quality HSLP Management practices, direct and ensure consistency within operations, non-operations facilities, projects, exploration, acquisitions and divestment opportunities to address all levels of HSLP risks and mitigation planning

§ Provide Corporate representation on the investigation team in the event of a fatal occurrence

§ Manage the Departmental professional development and HSLP talent management program

§ Participate as an active member of the Newmont Global HSLP

§ Support Corporate initiatives as required

 

Requirements

 

§ Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in relevant HSLP discipline, or other relevant technical degree and related job experience.

§ Minimum (10) years management experience with HSLP practices responsible for multiple mining opertations, at a corporate or regional level

§ Proven track record of leading and developing successful teams

§ Trained and competent in Risk and Opportunity management processes

§ Knowledge of industry recognized safety systems and behavioral concepts such as ISRS, MSM, OSHA, NOSHA and DuPont STOP.

§ Experience in applying and managing Operational Risk

§  Formal training in quality systems, assessments, auditing and analysis

§ Demonstrated track record of management, leadership, and communication skills

§ Planning, organizational and time management skills

§ Applied skills in behavioral and observation concepts and practices

§ Applied skills in risk management applications

§ Applied skills in causal assessment and analysis

§ Demonstrated use of initiative and problem solving techniques

§ Ability to work in fast pace and diverse environments

§ Ability to interact with diverse cultures

§ Ability to work under extreme field conditions
