Buyer/Planner
The responsibilities of the position encompass all of the functions of forecasting, inventory planning, purchasing, and scheduling. This position will be responsible for continuously improving the procurement strategy for H-D/Buell accessories. This will require developing and maintaining supplier relationships with O.E.M. internal and external suppliers. Principle activities include: • Assisting in the development of category, product family and part number forecasts. • Developing inventory targets and order points. • Reviewing requirements and releasing orders for purchase and manufacture of goods. • Assisting in the identification of slow moving and obsolete inventories. • Monitoring order rates, inventory levels, and delivery plans. Expediting, de-expediting, and replanning deliveries as necessary to prevent backorders or excess stock. • Preparing monthly performance results for management, identifying issues and recommending corrective action. • Developing and managing relationships and strategic development with suppliers. • Visiting suppliers and conducting relevant surveys to appraise their manufacturing ability and ensure sufficient capacity exists to support P&A requirements. • Assisting in the determination of requirements and specifications of materials needed for production and experimental work. • Assisting in the development of suppliers in current Supply Chain Management methodologies. • Operating in a continuous improvement mode focusing on quality, cost and delivery. • Leading or participating in process or system improvements. • Performing special projects and assignments as required to meet work unit goalsRequires a Bachelor’s Degree in Inventory Management, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience required. A minimum of 3 years of inventory and/or purchasing experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment required. • Demonstrated knowledge of purchasing practices, supply chain management practices, bills of material, MRP/DRP, and statistical forecasting systems required. • CPIM certification through APICS or C.P.M. certification through ISM preferred. • Motorcycle after-market experience is preferred, along with pervious experience in service parts and accessories environment. • Firm grasp of purchasing practices, supply chain management practices, bills of material, blueprint reading and understanding, knowledge of material control scheduling, and an understanding of manufacturing processes. • Knowledge of DRP/MRP and statistical forecasting systems is required. • Periodic travel required up to 10%. Equivalency Definition: If the candidate does not meet the degree requirement a combination of relevant education and experience should total the equivalent of 12 years.
