Research Associate - Investment Intelligence

Job Description:
The Research Associate’s role is to provide research support for all active intelligence collection projects, under the direction of individual Project Managers. Responsibilities involve conducting secondary research on project companies and individuals, using press coverage, investment analyst reports, court documents, public records, and other open-source resources. The Research Associate is accountable for assisting the Project Manager in all project phases, including preliminary research, source targeting, intelligence collection, reporting, and dissemination.
Roles/Responsibilities:Serve as the Investment Intelligence group’s expert resource on public databases and open-source information.Stay abreast of the evolving collection objectives of every active project, which will dictate shifting research requirements.Upon initiation of each project, conduct thorough but expeditious secondary research on the target entity, culling significant press coverage, investment analyst reports, noteworthy public records, and other open-source information necessary for the preparation of a “Preliminary Research and Project Definition” report.Through the life of each project, closely monitor press and other reporting on developments involving the companies and individuals of interest, and disseminate this information in a timely manner to Project Managers.Play a central role in the preparation of target analyses to identify prospective intelligence sources. Be resourceful, industrious and perseverant in surfacing source candidates consistent with evolving project objectives, providing background and contact information.Build and maintain a source network database that Project Managers can use as a resource for identifying expertise on specific commercial sectors or companies.Conduct occasional source intelligence collection under Project Manager direction.Maintain a sense of urgency consistent with that of each project.Observe both the spirit and letter of the law by complying with all applicable legal considerations, including those associated with insider trading laws.
Competencies:
· Strong self-initiative and the ability to work with limited guidance.
· Aptitude for understanding general corporate financial and legal issues.
· Exceptional research and writing skills.
· Ability to prioritize and support many projects simultaneously.
Education and Experience:Bachelors Degree, with 1-3 years relevant experience. Strong familiarity with open source resources, including databases that provide access to press reporting, court documents, investment analyst reports, and public records data.Basic understanding of corporate financial reporting and SEC filings.Experience in conducting research using the aforementioned resources.
Compensation: Compensation commensurate with experience; this is a bonus eligible position.
