We are currently recruiting for a Trademark Secretary in our Alexandria, Virginia office. Buchanan attorneys focus on more than 65 practice areas including Corporate Finance, Litigation, Intellectual Property, Tax, Government Relations, Health Care and Labor & Employment. The firm serves national and international clients that include Fortune 500 corporations, start-ups, technology companies and financial institutions.
Responsibilities will include:Performing general secretarial duties including but not limited to preparing routine correspondence, reading and routing mail, file maintenance, and screening incoming attorney telephone calls. Providing domestic and foreign trademark prosecution secretarial support to attorneys and legal assistants. Preparing applications, responses and other trademark prosecution documents for filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office "USPTO" and reporting filings to clients. Reviewing and maintaining attorney(s) dockets and entering their time into the Daily Time Entry database on a daily basis. Providing support for miscellaneous client-related projects.
Skills and Requirements:3+ years of domestic and foreign trademark prosecution secretarial experience preferably in a law firm environment. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work as a team with your peers and attorneys. Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and utilize current USPTO trademark prosecution procedures. Ability to prepare USPTO filings, draft correspondence to clients and enter attorney time utilizing proper grammar and accurate spelling. Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Typing speed of 60 - 70 WPM; ability to produce accurate and attractive letters, USPTO filings, documents and reports. Good proofreading and editing skills - attention to detail is a must.
