ST Legal Associate-- Construction Litigation

YOUR MISSION

 

To utilize your litigation support skills to assist us with delivering quality legal services to our clients, focusing in the area of construction litigation. 

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

•  Utilize your experience in construction litigation issues, particularly your knowledge of delay and acceleration claims and scheduling, to develop significant subject-matter expertise in facts and issues for government contracts litigation matters.

•  Based on your subject-matter expertise in government contracting issues and in the particular facts of a single matter, consult with litigators, providing insight into the legal issues and potential defenses, and best approaches to effectively utilize the discovery process.

•  Quickly digest large amounts of complex factual background information to achieve the subject-matter expertise necessary to consult with clients on the facts of the litigation, enabling you to provide insight on how the facts best match the clients’ legal strategies.  This will include:

· Advising and consulting with clients based on your knowledge of the case, tasks, documents, and data, including presentation of information.

· Analyzing probable outcomes by applying knowledge of legal precedents and consulting with clients on your analysis.

· Sharing subject matter expertise with substitute counsel in clients’ absence and confidently providing support in depositions and meetings with expert witnesses and various other parties.

•  Understand all aspects of our legal support service offerings and how they are provided, from the initiation of litigation, to document collection, through the entire discovery process, with all of its options, and to the point of final hearing or trial.

•  Deliver all of our legal support services, including:

· Preparing legal documents such as briefs, motions, memoranda, and discovery devices such as interrogatories and deposition questions.

· Drafting attorney correspondence and preparing for signature.

· Researching issues and claims; gathering required factual and legal documentation.

· Performing legal research using traditional and automated methods.  

· Providing interview, deposition, hearing, and trial support including logistical support, coordination of witnesses, preparing notebooks, scripts, summaries and meeting notes, tracking data, and providing status updates.

· Preparing and tracking deposition and trial exhibits.

· Preparing chronologies, lists, and timelines of factual and documentary data.

· Organizing document collections including triage, collection, inventory, and control of chain of custody.

· Maintaining internal and client case files.

· Conducting legal reviews.

•  Act as a team lead on tasks, cases, or projects.  This may require the drafting of procedures, reviewing and reporting on metrics, and analyzing and reporting on issues related to the task.

•  Exercise discretion and judgment using advanced knowledge in field to make daily decisions on tasks.

•  Implement and maintain Quality Control measures.  Review the work of others for accuracy.

•  Exercise critical thinking and problem-solving skills throughout the discovery process to identify and resolve any issues that may arise.

•  Communicate potential and actual issues that arise during the discovery process to the Project Manager and be able to discuss directly with client.

YOUR TRACK RECORD

 JD and three-five years of experience is preferred.Experience with complex construction litigation, including delay and acceleration claims, ability to interpret schedules derived from Primavera project management solution, and familiarity with construction terminology.Background in civil engineering.Experience with contracts litigation.  Experience with the discovery process.Experience with electronic discovery issues. Experience with government contracts.
