Pharmacy Technician II Institutional

Job Description Acts as a resource for pharmacy technicians and service clerks on all job duties in accordance with performance standards. Assists department leadership in staff training, orientation and technical guidance as needed.

Assists pharmacist with the servicing of pharmacy customers including: taking and recording initial demographic and other required information.

Under the supervision of a pharmacist, prepares appropriate medication, selects products, including the counting or reconstituting and packaging of products.

Provides general clerical or miscellaneous duties to ensure efficient operation of the pharmacy. This may include: inventory control, ordering and stocking supplies, preparing medications for delivery or mailing, and occasionally delivering prescriptions and generating computerized batch reports and other miscellaneous computer functions. (Duties will vary depending upon the needs of the pharmacy.)

Performs standard pharmacy compounding and uses multiple dispensing systems and multi-tasking between systems.

Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.

General Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform this job are typically acquired through one to three years of progressively responsible experience as a Pharmacy Technician that includes experiences in a long term care or retail pharmacy.

Familiarity with medical terminology, medication names and standard pharmacy SIGs (prescription instructions and directions for medication use).

Proficient with multiple dispensing systems and multi-tasking between systems. Proficient in standard pharmacy compounding.

Exceptional customer service, organization, problem resolution and process development skills.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and take initiative.

Must have high attention to detail and strong mathematical skills.

Basic computer skills including Microsoft office applications and electronic mail. Experience with electronic medical records and/or pharmacy systems.

Desired Qualifications
Certified or able to be Certified within alotted time frame.
