Anesthesia Aide

Responsible for proper cleaning of instruments and equipment used in anesthesia, to ensure availability of supplies and equipment required by the Anesthesiologists.

Responsible for preoperative preparation. This includes preparing machines and equipment used for the delivery of anesthetic; preparing the anesthesia cart with equipment, materials, and medications as requested by the Anesthesiologist; and preparing the IV solution and equipment needed to start the IV line.

Assisting with placement of EKG patches, blood pressure cuffs, and other non-invasive monitoring equipment.

Assisting with simple intubations.

Positioning the patient for the starting of the IV and/or for the injection of a regional block.

Assisting the Anesthesiologists and Anesthesia Monitoring Technicians during the delivery of the anesthetic.

Anticipating the needs of the Anesthesiologist during changes in the patient's condition.

Assisting with clean up after the procedure and in the preparation of the next procedure.

Troubleshooting equipment failures and makes minor adjustments. Refers major problems to Anesthesia Coordinator or designee.

Performing various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.

General Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Additional education/classes in anatomy and physiology is preferred.

Minimum of six months experience in patient care or service-related position.

Knowledge of medical terminology and/or material management/sterilization would be a definite asset.

Must be able to function effectively under fast paced, sometimes stressful environment.
