POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

Conduct visualization science research in one or multiple areas of interest, including graph, temporal, spatial, and transactions analytics. Develop new visual analysis technologies and interaction techniques to enable timely insight from complex data. Lead teams of researchers and software engineers responsible for creation and evaluation of new visual metaphors appropriate to exploratory data analysis and discovery in highly complex environments.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Responsible and accountable for leading applied research projects and interdisciplinary teams of people, interacting with clients, preparing research proposals, helping to generate future research directions, authoring publications and presentations, and mentoring other staff members.

 

· Level 3 will lead small to moderate research projects, prepare small to medium research proposals, and mentor other staff members.

· Level 4 will lead moderate to large research projects, prepare medium to large research proposals, and lead mentoring activities for other staff members.

 

 

POSITION LEVEL REQUIREMENTS

 

Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline is required. An advanced degree is highly desired. Minimum qualifications include:

 

· Level 3: Requires a Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years, or a Master’s degree with at least 3 years, or a Ph.D. with at least 1 year of relevant experience with a strong computer science background.

 

· Level 4:  Requires a Bachelor’s degree with at least 7 years, a Master’s degree with at least 5 years, or a Ph.D. with at least 3 years of relevant experience with a strong computer science background.

 

· A demonstrated record of innovation, and experience in leading applied research projects is required. Must have the ability to interact with clients, prepare research proposals, and help generate future research directions.

 

· Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to lead interdisciplinary teams, and a strong orientation toward advancing the state of the science.

 

· A track record of publications in relevant technical areas is required.

 

· Extensive visualization science experience is required. An understanding of topics such as human computer interaction, analytic reasoning, cognitive and perceptual psychology, and the analysis process is highly desired. Experience with national security clients and applications is desired.

 

· Placement level will be dependent upon management's assessment of the selected candidate's skills, experience, and ability to contribute.

 

· Ability to obtain a future security clearance is required, which requires US Citizenship.

Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.  All Security Clearance (L or Q) positions will be considered by the Department of Energy to be Testing Designated Positions which means that they are subject to applicant, random, and for cause drug testing.  In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).

 

Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs for 12 consecutive months can be demonstrated.
