Once you're accepted into the Border Patrol, you'll start with 95 days of rigorous Border Patrol Training in Artesia, New Mexico, during which you're on full salary with uniforms and equipment provided. Initial appointments are made at the GL-5 ($36,658), GL-7 ($41,729) and GL-9 ($46,524) grade levels with non-competitive promotion potential to GL-11 ($54,494). Agents can earn up to an additional 25 percent of basic salary each year in overtime pay. The Border Patrol Agent position has an accelerated 6 1/2 month promotion plan. Agents in service three years have earning potential of up to $70,000.
