Electrical Engineer - Power Systems
SAIC's Energy Solutions Operation is experiencing fast, dynamic growth and seeks a highly motivated, customer-oriented Electrical Engineer - Power Systems to join the team. The selected candidate will support exciting commercial and government energy projects throughout the U.S. This is a strategically important position that will have a large impact on an already successful organization. The position is in Morgantown, WV but other work locations can be considered. Mclean, VA is a strong consideration. Job Description: The selected Power Engineer will lead multiple power systems projects in support of U.S. Department of Energy, Department of Defense and commercial energy clients. Project work will involve the following: - Design and implement integrated technology demonstration projects incorporating advanced electricity distribution system control and communications technologies, distributed and renewable energy systems, energy storage and other smart grid technologies. - Design and develop electricity grid modeling systems in support of government and commercial clients, including tools to analyze transmission and distribution grid performance and the integration of distributed energy resources - Apply intelligent systems and modern decision support technologies to improve planning and operations for Regional Transmission Organizations / Independent System Operators - Interface directly with senior officials within the Federal Government and with industry and academic leaders. - Develop Smart Grid marketing and growth strategies that leverage SAIC’s broad technology expertise across defense, infrastructure, IT and other relevant domains - Manage government and commercial energy projects as described above; implement program plans, develop technical solutions, coordinate resources, deliver project briefings and manage client relationships - Develop business with electric utility and Commercial/Industrial clients related to Advanced Metering Infrastructure, Demand Response, Distributed Energy Resources, Advanced Communications and other Smart Grid systems. - 10-20% travel. Education: BS in Engineering or Physical Science required; MS in Electrical Engineering or Physical Science highly desired. Required Skills: This position requires a minimum of 8 years experience in the electric power industry, including a position with at least one of the following: electric utility; energy consultant or AE; vendor. Strong conceptualization ability, strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are a must, including the capability to explain complex technical issues to decision-makers. Five or more years in an engineering design, development or technical consulting capacity is strongly desired. Familiarity with current industry research and development programs is desired. Experience in transmission and distribution work, both in the field and at the corporate level for a utility, RTO or ISO is a plus.
