Capital Projects Coordinator, Senior

Primary Duties:

Coordinates the planning, design and construction processes of complex, highly visible capital improvement projects related to Seattle City Light’s Hydroelectric and other facilities to ensure all specifications and standards are in compliance.

 

Plans, budgets and schedules all aspects of complex capital improvement projects; administers consultant contracts; coordinates design reviews, environmental reviews, permit acquisition; coordinates building and contract awards; supervises construction and monitors project closeouts.

 

Requires an extensive knowledge of engineering and architectural design principles, practices and procedures, estimating techniques and project accounting, construction methods and the principles, methods and practices of project management. Guidelines available include laws, rules, regulations and codes applicable to public works construction and general construction industry standards and practices. Judgment is exercised in scheduling and coordinating activities between various parties, planning and developing complex projects, and effectively negotiating contracts and schedules.

 

Work with limited supervision, perform all phases of work independently.  Controversial problems and those affecting the public or other departments are discussed with the supervisor to keep them informed of project(s) progress.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a minimum of four years project/construction management or related experience and a Bachelor Degree in Project Management, Architecture, Engineering or related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).  Position requires command of Microsoft Project, both for scheduling and budgeting needs.

 

State of Washington Driver’s License or equivalent mobility.

The most competitive candidates will be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse work force including the skilled crafts, contractors, consultants, customers and regulatory agency personnel.  They will be proficient in Microsoft Office application products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.) and related engineering analysis.  They will have an understanding of federal/state regulatory processes and procedures.  They will demonstrate through past experience an ability to work both independently and in a team environment with good interpersonal skills.
