Insurance Accountant
The Insurance Accountant provides accounting support for Property and Casualty Insurance as well as financial analysis for Risk Management and Corporate Accounting. Duties and Responsibilities Preparation of monthly journal entries and account reconciliations. The scope for entries and reconciliations includes insurance expense, insurance cost allocations, insurance reserves, insurance financing, and insurance related banking activity. Preparation of amortization schedules. Allocation of intercompany insurance allocations to profit or cost centers. Analysis of reserves and allocation of claim data. Semi annual analysis of long term and short term liability. For the annual renewal process, coordination of the data collection required for mortgaged properties, payroll sales, and vehicle exposure information. Generation of semiannual data for actuarial analysis. Documentation of insurance related processes. Preparation of insurance billings to two former subsidiaries. Preparation of quarterly insurance claim reconciliations. Performance of other duties or completion of other projects as assigned. Principal Contacts Works closely with Risk Management Department located at Chateau Plaza. Act as liaison between Risk Management and Accounts Payable. Seeks information, provides information and supports communication with various cost and profit centers. Education – required to possess an undergraduate degree (B.S or equivalent) in Accounting or Finance, CPA preferred. Experience – minimum of 4 years related experience, including 2 years working with property and casualty insurance. Specialized Knowledge – JDE experience is preferred. Microsoft Access and database application experience is a plus. Hyperion knowledge is a plus. Additional Qualifications – (1) Attention to detail is critical; (2) Proven ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines, (3) have the ability to work with minimal direction when necessary to support the group’s objectives.
