Nutraceutical is seeking a Formulations Scientist

Job Summary:

Under limited supervision, conducts product testing and assists in the development of new products for a wide variety of nutritional supplements, and production duties following established procedures in the following areas:



Essential Functions:

Confers with formulations manager and in house technical and marketing specialists to formulate resolve problems. Studies methods to improve quality of nutraceuticals such as flavor, color, texture, nutritional value, convenience, or physical, chemical, and microbiological composition of nutraceuticals. Conducts meetings with the Research and Development Department on new product development and provides technology input on new product design and concepts. Recommends new products. Works with Formulations Manager on new and existing products. Provides technical assistance in any processing difficulties. Reviews professional journals and scientific papers to keep abreast of changes in processing methods, product reformulation and Legal and Regulator affairs which could impact company’s products or processes. Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects, such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, staff conferences, in order to inform management of current status of each project.



Additional Responsibilities:

Works as part of a Product Development team. Work closely with formulation manager to develop new formulations Support of and involvement in company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs and activities. Maintain a clean and orderly work area.



Job Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in a food science, food technology or other related field from four-year college or university; with one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in flavor/organoleptic, powder/liquid, or capsule/tablet formulations preferred. Must have knowledge/education of flavors, food chemistry, product developments, and sensory science. Must be able to effectively evaluate/screen wide variety of dietary supplements including chewable tablet, drink mixes, tea and other beverage products. Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications including Word, Excel, database and presentation software. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.





Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee may exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, accommodation, color vision, and field of vision. May be exposed to considerable noise from machinery.
