Accounting Assistant

Accounting Assistant within the Corporate Financial Reporting Department.  Responsible for the administrative and accounting support for GAAP and statutory financial statements and supporting workpapers, maintain various databases, support ad hoc projects and miscellaneous administrative support. Update and maintain the product line report database and the Annual Statement assignment database accurately and timely within close schedule. Update and maintain reports and trial balance accurately and timely within the month-end close schedule. Prepare and complete quarterly and annual statement assignments accurately and timely within the close schedule. Assist with quarterly and annual filings with state regulators. Update and maintain the general ledger accounts. Prepare and distribute reports when needed. Update state filing checklist requirements. Update and maintain year-end assignment tracking database. Assist with annual statement mailing to state regulators. Assist with LAN maintenance. Prepare accounting schedules and calendars. Submit payment request for state assessments and fees. Support special projects as required, assist in the development and documentation of polices and procedures, and prepare and distribute reports when needed. Job Requirements: Excellent organizational skills, with great attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent customer service skills as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to operate, assist in design of, and maintain complex personal computer system applications. Proficient to advanced skills with all MS Office products (especially Excel, Access, Word). Experience with SharePoint a plus. Proven skills working independently or as an integral member or a larger team. Ability to meet deadlines under pressure. Minimum of 2 years experience working in a large accounting office setting. Background in insurance is a plus, AA degree preferred.
