PERFORMANCE ARTIST COORDINATOR
The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking an enthusiastic, creative individual to coordinate, hire, train and coach performers for the Museum's Dinosaur Puppet program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborating with staff and consultants, you will modify existing and develop new performance opportunities, including incorporating creative dramatic techniques and performance artists for other educational programs. Duties include maintaining schedules, supporting logistical and technical needs of the puppet and other dramatic projects, and overseeing and participating with performance artists, gallery interpreters, and other staff to create and present Dinosaur Puppet and other theatrical programming. You will supervise, evaluate and train your staff of four performance artists; dress in costume and perform in interpretive theater casts; keep notes on issues affecting the performance as well as its impact on the audience; liaison with the Marketing, Public Programs and Advancement departments; and assist with budget creation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The top candidate will bring 1-3 years as a dancer or performance artist combined with 3-5 years' supervisory experience; a background in theatrical production or stage management, with knowledge of training and evaluating performers; superior leadership, written/verbal communication, event coordination and project management abilities; willingness to wear a costume fitted with internal mechanisms for movement and sound amplification; interest in learning about dinosaurs to maximize realism of movement; and willingness to work weekends and evenings as needed. Experience with educational program development as well as full body puppets or physical theater is preferred.
Please send a cover letter, resume with salary history and 3 references with the job title in the subject line.
