Co-Executive Director (We Need a Duchess)
Executive Director/Duchess. (50K per annum and up) This highly challenging, yet uniquely exciting and rewarding position calls for a unique blend of manager and actress. The Duchess, for dramatic reasons, is a female who plays a leading role in live comedic productions as well as managing a small non-profit organization. She also plays a leading, high profile role in community affairs and community charities. One major benefactor is a tobacco interest, so she should be smoker friendly. This Foundation supports and promotes the arts. The right candidate for this position is multi-talented and possesses real dynamism, drive, determination, optimism, a love of the arts and performing, managerial skills and acting ability. The Executive Directors (Duke and the Duchess) have joint overall responsibility for FPMAH operational performance and the quality of dramatic and comedic productions. The Executive Directors (Duke and Duchess) set goals and standards and play the leading roles in the Foundations fund-raising live performances. Their business emphasis is different. The Duke’s primary responsibility is that of operations. The Duchess’s primary responsibility is that of finance. They must monitor training, quality of service, show quality and school and community outreach programs. Additionally they:
¨ are directly responsible for ambassadorial and fund-raising duties requiring medieval presentation to individuals, groups and organizations within the community. They play the leading roles at our fund-raising medieval comedy feasts and our comedic and educational productions for children and school groups.
¨ is directly responsible for the writing and publication of policy and training manuals—as well as the success of the Foundation’s training programs, though his is primarily a function of the Duke.
¨ are responsible for periodic audits, as agreed upon by the Board of Directors. The Duke & Duchess are responsible for ensuring that all Medieval Madness operations are properly licensed and that licenses are renewed on schedule.
¨ are primarily responsible for ensuring that the Board of Directors receives proper quarterly and annual financial and operating reports.
¨ lead fund raising drives and make philanthropic recommendations. The Duke and the Duchess recommend to the Board of Directors areas in which philanthropic efforts should be pursued.
¨ ensure that all taxes are accounted for and paid on schedule.
¨ ensure that procurement procedures and processes work in a smooth manner, that funds are appropriately budgeted to ensure the smooth supply of necessary supplies for operations and that replacement and new items are procured at the best price for the best quality. The Duke and the Duchess also negotiate such contracts as are necessary for routine operations.
¨ are responsible for ensuring new personnel and contractors are properly recruited, selected, trained and integrated into the Foundation.
¨ The Duchess is primarily responsible for all financial reports, maintaining bank accounts and financial records and working with an accountant chosen by the Board of Directors to prepare the Foundation’s taxes. The Duchess cooperates with the Board Treasurer on all matters involving financial planning.
For dramatic reasons, the Duchess must be at least 5'6" tall and slim and be able to project well from stage. She should also be able to do a good British accent. Pay varies depending upon qualifications and skills. This position does require some working at nights. An extensive knowledge of medieval history and art is not required upon hiring as we do train in those areas. The Duchess's comedic role is largely that of foil for the Duke and scripts are adjusted to suit the Duchess's strengths. We do not expect to find a candidate well versed in all that is required; therefore, we do not focus on experience in our decision as much as the substance and abilities of the individual. We believe that if one is talented and motivated, we can work with them and train them in needed areas.
This position is ideal for a woman who loves the arts, performing, managing and wants to hold a prominant position in community affairs. For information on the show the Foundation uses for fundraising see: www.medievalmadness.org
