FIRE PROTECTION ENGINEER - SEATTLE, WA
FIRE PROTECTION ENGINEER – SEATTLE, WA
We are looking for a Fire Protection Engineer for a position in Seattle, WA. Applicants need at least 5 years experience but 10+ years experience is preferred. BS in Fire Protection Engineering or related field is required but a MS Fire Protection Engineering degree is preferred.
Applicants need International Code Certifications up through at least Certified Building Official and at least Fire Code Inspector II with good code consulting experience in fire, life safety, and mechanical/plumbing. We would expect ICC certifications to a Certified Fire Official level, as well as at least Certified Building Plans Examiner Level. We would prefer to have someone with or working toward Certifications in Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical Code Inspector (if not plans examiner) leading to a CBO designation and trending toward a Master Code Professional within the next several years if they do not already have a P.E. or CFPS. The reason for this is that this position will be negotiating with building and fire officials for performance-based alternatives, equivalencies, and variances as applicable and should be qualified at a technical credential level equal to or higher than the AHJ. This also forms a level of professional parity with licensed design professionals when working as a team. Alternatively, we are looking for a PE fire protection engineer with strong code and fire/life safety skills and consulting experience. HPR (highly protected risk) property insurance experience is also a plus.
We do not expect that a candidate will come with all of these credentials at once, but should demonstrate a recognition of their importance within the design community for code applications and be willing to work toward steady completion. At the same time we will be looking for someone who approaches code challenges with a proactive technical stance for finding solutions and recommending alternatives to move a project forward. While a P.E. in fire protection would be great, more important at this stage is an individual with broad code solutions background to assist the architects and in-house engineers develop designs. That combined with good client relations, a sound technical writing background, and willingness to develop technically are key to this position.
We are looking for someone who can interact with the Architect to not just find code problems, but present proactive solutions, as well. This individual should be strong at business relationship building, since they will spend as much time in the client’s office as our own. Marketing skills and/or interest is a plus.
Relocation costs will be considered.
