Commissioning Engineer
Title: Commissioning Engineer Location: Cottage Grove, WI Position Summary: The Commissioning Engineer serves as a bridge between construction to operation of Company transmission lines and substation equipment. The essential responsibility is to assure that all new or upgraded equipment has been properly installed and tested and is ultimately responsible for supervising the initial energization. The service territory includes the eastern half of Wisconsin as well as most of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Responsibilities: Responsible for creating and revising commissioning plans, procedures and specifications. Responsible for the final check out of transmission equipment and controls and the supervision of the initial energization. Coordinate and actively work on both large-scale jobs as well as a multitude of smaller projects concurrently. Coordinate and provide oversight for the activities of apparatus testing, relay testing, RTU testing, and field vendor support to meet schedules, and safely energize additions, replacements, or modifications to the transmission system. Completion of these activities should be done with minimal impact to Operations. Work with Operations to determine the optimal outage schedule for testing and work with construction to focus the construction activities required to meet the project schedules/timelines. Work closely with other functional areas in Asset Management to ensure that modifications or new facilities meet the design standards and long term interests of the company. Participate as a member of project teams to assist in the development of the project schedule for construction and outages, and provide technical guidance for testing and commissioning activities. Participate in field safety tailgate sessions. Qualifications/Requirements: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (BSEE) or equivalent work experience. Must have a minimum 3 years of experience in substation design engineering or field engineering. The Commissioning Engineer must be familiar with “in service” testing techniques, along with operation of a transmission system and its component parts. Must also be familiar with the various equipment tests associated with transmission equipment. A valid driver’s license and ability to travel including occasional overnights is required.
