System Operations Engineer

The System Operations Engineer provides a variety of technical engineering support services to the System Operation Center (SOC) to update, develop, and maintain the Energy Management System (EMS) along with other control center automation systems. Provides technical support to other SOC personnel and prepares, issues and maintains associated documentation as required. This role conducts hardware and software engineering work associated with reliable and economic interconnected electric transmission system operations. *Performs engineering and economic analysis associated with electric transmission system security and control area operations to improve system reliability while minimizing costs.
*Provides technical support to operations personnel on EMS operation, transmission network security, analysis, simulation, and optimization, supervisory control and data acquisition.
*Maintains proficiency in new hardware and software technologies applicable to the EMS and system operations.
*Provides input into the development of training plans and provide training to the Power System Operators and engineering staff on complex EMS software.
*Troubleshooting of Energy Management System (EMS) hardware and software to diagnose malfunctioning equipment, system software or applications. Provides technical support for Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) problems at ATC electrical substations.
*Assists in researching, developing and implementing enhancements to the Energy Management System.
*Demonstrates leadership in the area of safety. This requires observing and enforcing safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe behaviors that may lead to accidents.
*Provides on call, after hours support on a rotating schedule. EDUCATION:
*Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering.

EXPERIENCE:
*Strong knowledge in System Operations Engineering or related power-engineering work.
*Prior Engineering Co-Op and/or Internship experience is strongly preferred.
*Understanding of Interconnected Electrical Transmission System Operations.
*Proven knowledge of technical software and hardware compatibility with computer systems.
*Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills along with the proven ability to plan and execute responsibilities minimal direction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical requirements may include but are not limited to the following: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting up to 45 lbs, typing, talking, hearing, sedentary work, medium work, and close visual acuity.
