Acts as a resource to generalist personnel to investigate and resolve problem situations or complex issues. Researches, analyzes, develops and implements new programs, systems and/or processes in response to changing internal and external conditions. Develops and maintains operational and procedural documentation. Responsibilities of this position include the following: Develop and modify policies and practices to improve the overall operational effectiveness of PacifiCorp's transmission and distribution system. Provide technical support to critical and highly complex operation and control functions within the business. Lead development and implementation processes and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness. Evaluate policies, procedures and other documentation and ensure all aspects of electrical operations are in accordance with Company safety procedures and legislative requirements. Supervise local relay technicians and develop and review daily and weekly schedules. Analyze schemes and prints and prepare field notebooks and outlines for installation of relays for technicians. Provide relay training as needed for various departments including dispatch, relay technicians, and switchman. In conjunction with the lead relay technicians, conduct functional audits of all major substations in Southwest Utah. Review schemes, review prints, settings, load tests, verify standard, and prepare field notebooks for technicians on new construction. Prepare outline for installation of relays or apparatus. Maintain file of field tests. Insure construction schedules are met. Recommend station and or equipment upgrades or replacements. Provide technical support assistance to substation journeymen, dispatchers, and relay techs, to insure proper system operation, and maintenance, and proper protection of all region high-voltage electrical equipment. Provide technical support to other districts as required.Requirements for this position include the following: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of five years related experience (Will consider candidates with less than five years experience; compensation will be commensurate with appropriate grade level). Knowledge of the power system. Assessment skills including problem diagnosis and identification of proper methods and techniques to resolve and prevent future problems. Communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult and resolve internal and external customer issues which may be critical, sensitive, or urgent in nature. Ability to work with all levels of an organization including people with different styles and backgrounds; ability to work as a member of a team. Expert knowledge of current technologies, tools, systems, and vendors. Understanding of applicable Company policies, practices and procedures. Ability to effectively translate technical jargon into layman’s terms. Preferences: Experience supervising technical personnel. Project management skills.
