Field Application Engineer - Drives and Automation Systems

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Field Application Engineer will be responsible for leading a project team to develop project proposals, project/system designs, and bring project to a successful completion. Will also be providing product related technical services and support, including: presales support, application review and evaluation, product specification assistance, field service, and product training for Omron sales and support staff, channel partners and customers.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide engineering estimates; create work break down structures, identifying resources required, and estimating duration of tasks. Develop functional requirements and document solution design specifications including hardware configuration, BOM, software requirements, electrical controls design. Proven experience in successfully delivering Coordinated Drive Applications. Supports presales activities by providing expertise in Coordinated Drive Application system engineering, controls design, related technology, product application and specification, etc.Assists company sales staff with discovery and requirements definition when project / system opportunities are identified. Ability to develop and document functional requirements from the discovery process.Responsible for project P&L. (Budget, Schedule, & Scope)Proven ability to lead project planning including developing work scheduled, sequencing engineering tasks.Review and mark up design drawingsDevelop all required project engineering documentation including requirements, specifications, drawings, manualsCreate and execute test plans for integration testing, FAT testing, validation testing, etc.Project communications including documenting meetings with customers, vendors, detailed trip reports, project time reportingOther engineering, project, technical tasks as required
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Five to ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field from a four year college or technical school. This job requires a minimum of 50% - 75% travel.
Project / Engineering experience :
· Designing Web and strip Handling control systems
· Electrical control systems design
· Industrial network design
· Data acquisition and control system design
· Measurement /process control system design
Technical Abilities: Project / system Engineering, project system documentation, Knowledge, service, and application/integration experience in one or more of the following industries, Plastics, Converting, Paper, Automotive and Food/Beverage processes required. Systems experience integrating PLC, HMI, Motion, Drives, including networking required.
Experience with engineering tools such as MS Project, and AutoCAD.
Experience with OMRON industrial control products - a plus.
Experience with RA and other vendor control products – a plus.
Mechanical design experience a plus.
