System Administrator
The University of St. Thomas, a private university committed to the liberal arts and to the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, is seeking an experienced professional to serve as a System Administrator.
The System Administrator reports to the Director of Central Computing Services and will have the responsibility for a broad range of complex system and security administration and operations of Microsoft Windows, UNIX and Linux systems. Responsibilities include installation, maintenance and configuration of campus servers, monitor daily security and performance of systems, system disaster recovery, patch management and provide backup support for the University’s email administrator. Other duties include disaster recovery planning, capacity planning, patch management, working with other IT departments to ensure the secure operation of systems and networks across the campus, identify and review security breaches and vulnerability issues in a timely and accurate fashion, and assist in ensuring security policies are followed.
The position requires a Bachelor's Degree. Experience in the following areas are required: Windows 2000/2003 Server, Active Directory 2000/2003, Group Policy and administrative templates to secure Windows Servers, Windows/Linux scripting, Linux administration, networking (TCP/IP, WINS, DNS, DHCP), network security tools, and server and data center consolidation. Hardware experience includes: HP servers and SANs, and Sun Microsystems servers. Some level of experience with Perl, MS SQL Server 2000/2005, MS Exchange 2003, and VMWare, Double-Take, and CA BrightStor ARCserve is a plus. Candidate must be able to take projects from concept through completion through ongoing management; excellent server troubleshooting skills; excellent interpersonal skills, written skills and oral communication skills; have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team; and must be able to respond to system outages during off-hours.
This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position.
