Student Employment Advisor / Industry Relations Coordinator

The Art Institute of Seattle is seeking qualified candidates for its Student Employment Advisor / Industry Relations Coordinator position.  This is a blended position that will encompass 50% assisting students in securing both non-career related and career related part-time jobs, career related freelance opportunities and coordinating college work study and 50% conducting industry research, helping to identify potential employment opportunities and coordinating freelance opportunities.




Key Job Elements:

1. Promote the availability of current part-time and freelance employment assistance to students in classroom presentations and by creating and implementing related campus events, including job fairs, workshop, on-site interviews, etc. and serve as a liaison between students and employers offering part time employment.

2. Contact employers by phone, mail and in person to obtain part-time and freelance job leads. Inform and educate employers of the services offered by the department and successfully communicate said open job leads to student body.

3. Serve as a liaison between students and employers; refer qualified students to appropriate part-time and freelance job openings. Monitor progress of job search and accepted employment through follow up with students and employers. Maintain accurate student records of employment. Accomplish job posting targets as determined by the DoCS

4. Work with Student Financial Services department to identify and prioritize high need students. Coordinate College Work Study with SFS by soliciting leads, explaining procedures, screening and referring students and maintaining employment.

5. At the direction of the Director of Career Services and in support of the Career Service Advisors research and identify new/additional companies, and decision makers within, and professional groups that need talent in the fields taught by the school. Utilize a variety of research tools including internet, published resources, professional associations, existing employers, alumni and graduates.

6. Secure new job opportunities appropriate for students, internship candidates, and graduates from all program areas on a weekly basis, and develop a follow-up program for securing additional job opportunities on a long term basis.

7. Maintain accurate records in database system that reflect all marketing and outreach activities and that fosters continual relationship development, i.e., direct mail campaigns, portfolio show announcements.

8. Help to identify local and regional industry professional events in school’s market and assist Career Service Advisors in attending membership meetings, networking opportunities and other events.

9. Meet quarterly goals pertaining to part time employment placements/fairs, employer visits, job postings secured telemarketing, and hires from job leads.

 

Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

1. Knowledge:
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field. Equivalent experience could be considered as substitute for education requirements.  Two years experience in placement/search firm, career counseling or industry-related position, and at least one year experience in a marketing or field-related environment

2. Skills:
Excellent communication skills, including sales/persuasive abilities and the ability to build successful relationships with employers and students.  Computer literacy in MS Office suite.

3. Abilities:
Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet frequently occurring deadlines.  Must be goal and team oriented and conduct business with attention to ethical considerations, employment law and school/accreditation guidelines.
