Master Control Operator Part Time

NATURE OF WORK: Under the direction of the Supervisor, TV Engineering Operations, to perform a variety of duties of a technical operations nature involving the vision, creation and editing of television programs, use of professional non-linear and linear video editing systems and related television equipment at Milwaukee Public Television stations WMVS-TV/DT & WMVT-TV/DT. There are two positions available for this part-time job!ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties listed may vary in terms of relative importance and others may be added or eliminated as this position develops. • Operates professional non-linear and linear editing systems in the production of programming through Milwaukee Public Television. Must have creative ability, as well as technical skills. • Operates related television equipment including video switchers, video servers, audio consoles, video recorders, character generators, etc. as required for editing, studio, and remote productions. • Maintains technical standards for audio and video throughout the editing process. • Ingests programming into servers and operates automation systems. Assists in feed originations for MPTV and other entities. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: • Prepares and maintains necessary logs and records. • May direct, instruct, or assist students in equipment setup and operations. • Performs other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Requires an Associate’s degree in video production editing or related field and two (2) years work experience in television editing; or other equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge skills and abilities to include the following: • Working knowledge of video/audio editing principles and techniques in non-linear and linear environments such as Avid, Apple and Sony systems. • Significant and recent experience in non-linear and linear editing in the production of full length broadcast television programs. Experience in high definition television is desirable. • Demonstrated computer literacy. Experience with television graphics programs is desirable. • Knowledge of and ability to maintain all appropriate technical standards throughout the video editing process. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with producers, staff, students, and the general public. • Ability to communicate through both oral and written means. • Completion of specialized manufacturers' training on editing systems and other broadcast equipment is desirable. • Creative television storytelling ability, as shown in previous work. • Previous experience as a video producer highly desirable.
