George Mason University, Information Technology Unit, Database Applications Services (DAS) Group on the Fairfax campus seeks a Manager of Portal and Web Technologies.
Do you like to work with customers to define their needs, develop requirements and solve technical problems? Are you good at mentoring and managing technical staff? Have you got solid experience with any of the following?
- Java;
- SQL and RDBMS;
- UNIX;
- Web services;
- Message-oriented middleware (MOM); and/or
- Portal technologies.
If you have these skills and abilities, we'd like to talk to you.
The following experience is a plus:
- SunGard Higher Education's Banner software suite or other ERP system;
- Oracle RDBMS;
- Solaris; and/or
- Content management system (CMS) technologies.
Solid organizational and management skills, attention to detail, good interpersonal skills and the ability to multitask are required. Incumbent must be able to work on and manage multiple projects and tasks, and motivate direct reports to provide outstanding service.
What would you do?
As Manager of Portal and Web Technologies, you would:
- Manage work plans for staff and provide periodic reviews;
- Mentor staff in learning new skills;
- Communicate frequently with portal and content management teams to ensure that their requests are being fulfilled;
- Collaborate with database administrators in the development of database structures, and system and network engineers on configuration issues in support of Web servers, portals and content management systems;
- Provide support for various university Web sites and applications. We are looking for a person who has excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and who has the ability to solve problems for the users of university systems and applications;
- Demonstrate sound project management and collaborative skills in ensuring the prompt and accurate delivery of services to the university community;
- Keep abreast of new technologies and apprise upper management as to how these technologies can be used to benefit the user community; and
- Provide strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide creative solutions by working with the DAS teams, clients and staff toward predetermined goals following our programming and project management guidelines.
