DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Working out of both Pullman and Seattle, the Development Coordinator for the Murrow College of Communication is responsible for participating in and coordinating the development and implementation of fund raising activities to meet the unit’s goals. The Development Coordinator is responsible for organizing, implementing and evaluating special events; performing public relations; solicitation of gifts and sponsorship from individuals and/or corporations; promoting establishment and maintenance of endowment and scholarship accounts; administering an alumni relations membership program; fostering membership program relationships; managing annual fund raising and special event programs and providing related support functions. This position represents the University to internal and external constituents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience, which includes six (6) month of full-time experience in marketing, gift solicitation or public contact work with evidence of ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively orally and in writing and organize and execute assignments. A Master’s degree in a relevant field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
POSITION-SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
Periodic overnight travel is required, including evening and weekend work requirements for donor and alumni activities.
Position requires a valid driver’s license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Fundraising experience at a comprehensive public or private research university or similar complex organization and/or demonstrated success in fundraising or relevant sales, marketing, or public relations positions.
Demonstrated experience with donor prospect research and ‘moves management’ systems or similar type sales experience.
Skilled in use of computer applications such as email, word processing, and spread sheet applications
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Annual Giving (30% E)
Prepare and implement strategies for all facets of the MCC’s annual giving program, i.e., Call-A-Coug, Faculty/Staff Campaign, holiday mailings, and other direct mail and/or special projects as designated by the Director of Development.
Identify and qualify annual gift prospects, upgrade current annual gift donors, acquire new President’s Associates level donors, and qualify major gift prospects.
Develop systematic efforts to identify, solicit, steward, maintain, and upgrade annual giving donors.
Complete and/or assist with contact reports for every donor contact; prepare written proposals, background reports, and other development materials for use during cultivation and solicitation.
Maintain historical records of annual fund progress.
Donor Identification, Cultivation and Stewardship (30% E)
Coordinate cultivation and stewardship systems for all annual and special gifts to facilitate timely acknowledgements and follow-up with donors and others, as appropriate.
Manage Gift Use Agreement (GUA) process in accordance with Foundation policy.
Assist in endowment and scholarship reporting to donors that require special stewardship.
Assist with general stewardship programs, activities and programs for donors, i.e. coordinate luncheons for scholarship recipients and donors.
Work with the development director and MCC unit leadership to identify relationship linkages, ability to give, and interest areas of prospects.
Develop and monitor systems to track progress with current and prospective donors, including private grant activity (‘moves management’ systems).
Research current and prospective funding sources (individual; corporate; private foundations) using the Internet and other resources available through the Foundation and the University.
Budgets (15% E)
In cooperation with the Development Director, establish annual fund raising budgets.
Within established guidelines, monitor budget expenditures.
Ensure the receipt and recording of various fees associated with programs and projects.
Create and analyze budget reports.
Administration (10% E)
Organize, implement and oversee all aspects of Development Office operations, including scheduling, travel arrangements, database coordination, phone calls, and general correspondence.
Develop and coordinate the administrative and donor filing systems (paper and online).
Manage development calendars.
Serve as development liaison to administrative staff within each unit of the MCC.
Events (10% E)
Help plan, organize, implement and evaluate annual and special stewardship events of the MCC including, but not limited to major donor and scholarship events, donor site visits, and board meetings.
Assist the MCC Director of Communications and External Relations team to publish/promote various programs in support of the MCC.
Other (5%)
Other duties as assigned.
SALARY
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
