SUMMARY:  The In-School Youth Program Career Agent helps at-risk, program-eligible teens develop the skills needed to succeed at school, home, work and in the community.  He/she will provide services that include case management, workplace readiness skills training, basic learning skills, tutoring, mentoring, career counseling, teambuilding training, job preparation assistance, and referrals to community resources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Prepares materials and curriculum for class activities; maintains accurate and complete student records as required by policy; instructs students individually and in groups on general education and employment expectations, using various instructional methods that include lectures, discussions, and demonstrations. Plans and conducts activities for balanced transitional life of the student; prepares and administers assignments to assist with the evaluation of student’s progress; assists in the development of educational and vocational objectives in understanding and overcoming personal and social problems; maintain accurate records of students’ participation and performance. Other duties may be assigned as necessary. Collects and evaluates information about the youth’s abilities, interests, and personality characteristics, using comprehensive assessment tools and interviews. Compiles and studies occupational, educational, and economic information to assist the student in making and carrying out vocational and educational objectives. Teaches, recommends, and implements referrals for supportive services for youth. Documents and evaluates initial interview with youth. Collaborates with youths on goal-setting plans. Refers qualified students to employers or employment service for employment. Assists in-school teens in developing their educational and vocational objectives. Serves as liaison with student faculty as appropriate. Assist with providing comprehensive educational, recreational and functional training curriculum to students. Participate in individual and group activities that promote work readiness skills.  Provide recommendations to improve or enhance program activities. Provides support to students through tutoring and mentoring activities. Conduct evaluations and feedback to assist with measuring performance.  Maintains accurate and complete student records as required by policy. Plans and conducts student enrichment activities. Prepares and administers assignments to assist with the evaluation of student progress.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  Bachelor’s Degree in education, counseling, human services, or psychology and/or 2 years of professional experience that demonstrates knowledge of job development and human services programs. Experience in case management, eligibility screening/intake, and teaching is needed.  Must be proficient with Internet, e-mail, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Work requires local travel between three sites.  The candidate will be required to work at the Smithfield, Franklin and Portsmouth, VA sites.  This is a part-time position 20-24 hours per week.  Please submit salary history when applying.
