Assistant Student Affairs and Career Servics Director

This position is responsible for the development and implementation of programs and activities that support the needs, and foster the personal growth, of students. Specifically, this position will be responsible for Student Affairs including: student housing, student conduct, counseling, community referrals, disability services, student activities and programs and student publications. This position will also be responsible for Career Services functions such as: development of strong corporate relationships, marketing the school's graduates to national, regional and local employers and meeting graduate outcome plans. Incumbent must assure that the EDMC philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.

 

Key Job Elements:

1. Oversee the development and facilitation of extra-curricular and co-curricular activities/programs that promote personal growth and student success. Promote strategies and programs designed to positively impact student persistence and increase student satisfaction at the school.

 

2. Coordinate student housing services for students attending the school. Ensure students’ housing needs are met.

 

3. Provide support services to students with qualified disabilities seeking accommodations.

 

4. Provide oversight to student clubs at the school. Serve as Chair or member of committees such as Student Affairs Committee, Student Conduct Committee, etc. Collaborate with committees such as Student Sucess Committee. Serve as advisor to the student government.

 

5. Conduct ongoing assessment of student, employer, faculty, staff and alumni career related needs in order to develop career services department on the campus. Primary focus will be assessing the needs of students through surveys, focus groups, and individual meetings.

 

6. Plan and implement group and individual career counseling programs, workshops and job search advising services to help students become prepared for the job market and achieve their stated career planning and job search goals.

 

7. Create a strategic plan for employer outreach efforts focused on new organizations. Develop and maintain strong relationships with employers and create an array of recruiting services to meet their hiring needs. Work with the school's Executive Committee to develop and implement strategies for solidifying and leveraging corporate relationships across the entire school.

 

8. Identify ways to engage alumni in the delivery of career services.

 

9. Other responsibilities as assigned by the Campus President.

 

Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

1. Knowledge:

a) A Master’s degree in education, Student Personnel Administration or other related field is required.

b) Five or more years of related responsibility in a post-secondary institution and career counseling experience either in corporate or academic setting.

c) Working knowledge of administering disability support services in higher education setting

d) Demonstrated experience managing student conduct processes and procedures.

e) Experience with advising student clubs and organizations.

f) Knowledge of the career decision-making and placement process.

 

2. Skills:

a) Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

b) Strong interpersonal skills with both faculty and student populations.

c) Superior organizational and problem resolution skills.

d) Strong computer and analytical skills.

e) Persuasive sales techniques both over the phone and in person.

 

3. Abilities:

a) Work effectively as either a leader or a team member to insure that departmental goals are met.

b) Ability to prioritize work and perform well under pressure.

c) Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

d) Ability to comply with regulatory requirements with respect to student academic records and other documentation.

e) Ability to pay attention to details in designing, implementing and maintaining systems, projects and programs.
