COMPANY INFORMATION:

In operation since 1964, Career Systems Development Corporation continues to focus on helping at-risk youth.

The contracted operation of Job Corps Centers is the largest segment of the company's business. CSD has played a major role in the Job Corps program since it was initiated in 1964. Funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, the Job Corps program helps disadvantaged youth by providing educational and vocational training in a residential setting, then placing graduates in jobs that use their new skills. The company also provides quality vocational assessment and placement services for unemployed youth and adults.

HOURS:

Monday - Friday 7:45am – 4:45pm



JOB SUMMARY:



Performs as an instructor in a regular classroom setting, presenting instructions in designated subject area: General Education & Mathematics

Demonstrates on-going commitment to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling, mentoring and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards of: Workplace relationships and ethics; Information management; Communications; Multicultural awareness; Personal growth and development; Career and personal planning, and; Interpersonal skills; Independent living. 

MAJOR ACTIVITIES PERFORMED:

 

1. Demonstrates and abides by the Company Core Values and the operating principles.

2. Promotes a positive and desirable atmosphere within the classroom setting to insure maximum student motivation.

3. Maintains a high degree of discipline within the classroom setting in order to insure maximum learning.

4. Establishes a high degree of student/instructor rapport.

5. Utilizes all possible curriculum resources available.

6. Responsible for adequate classroom preparation.

7. Maintains student personnel folders.

8. Records and forwards daily attendance to the Student Records area.

9. Assists in the completion of all necessary Job Corps forms.

10.  Responsible for building and equipment in seeing that security measures are taken and equipment and supplies are cared for.

11.  Accountable for the cleanliness of classrooms.

12.  Prepares reports such as student/staff hours, requisitions and monthly student evaluations.

13.  Assists Supervisor during scheduled inventory.


REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:


Minimum: 1 year experience in teaching capacity. Credentialed to teach in the state of Texas. Bilingual in English/Spanish (speak, read, write.)


Preferred: Experience working with disadvantaged youth.


Knowledge Required: Knowledge of required subject area, excellent communication skills, both oral and written, excellent organizational skills, must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification, ability to motivate and inspire students, ability to effectively relate to student population.
