Engineer, Costing
This is a Waterloo Industries Position. Waterloo is a sister company of Master Lock and is relocating their Corporate Headquarters to Oak Creek, WI. Estimate costs of manufactured products (direct labor & material, variable and fixed. overhead using established corporate VOH and FOH rates, as well as incremental analysis).Detail manufacturing processes to be used.Review product designs and evaluate manufacturability.Participate in the design process by providing advice, guidance and technical support on options for manufacturing processes. Suggest improvements in design, tooling, manufacturing methods of products being costed to reduce cost.Recommend use of alternate materials and manufacturing methods to reduce costs.Communicate routings to plant engineering. Solicit feedback as necessary to insure plant input on costs.Break down product costs into features or material to allow teams to analyze cost benefits of features on a new product.Present costing history summaries as new products are developed.Maintain material cost and labor estimating data for determining future costs.Stay current on both existing and new sheet metal and plastic processing methods.Recommend business process improvements for the Product Engineering department. Requirements: BSME, IE or related four-year technical degree. Three years of manufacturing experience in sheet metal processing and/or costing. Ability to read, analyze and interpret manufacturing and engineering documents. Formalized training or experience in “design for manufacturing” preferred. Must be team oriented and possess strong analytical skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel). Must be results oriented, energetic, proactive, and a team player. Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate to all levels within an organization. Ability to effectively decompose a costing to identify the root cause(s) of high costs and to present information succinctly for discussion with senior management. When working with less than perfect information, the ability to make appropriate assumptions and backup the assumptions with data Manufacturing experience in plastic processing and/or costing is a plus.
