M.C. Dean, Inc. has an immediate opening for a NETA Certified - High Voltage Technician 1.
The job requirements are, but not limited to:Possess one of the following certifications: NETA, AVO or NICETHigh School Diploma or GED.Provide evidence of relevant training and at least 5 years experience in the substation testing and maintenance. Have general knowledge of electrical substations. Have knowledge of basic electrical theory and its application and ability to read and interpret blueprints. Possess a valid driver’s license and provide a current copy of your driving record from your state motor vehicle agency.Ability to communicate in Basic English (for safety reasons).Pass a substance abuse test and remain free of substance abuse.
Job Duties:Protection Relays - Test and trouble-shoot basic current and voltage relays. Demonstrate proper use of primary and secondary injection testing of protection relays.Switchgear - Demonstrate knowledge of all elements of low and medium voltage substations. Perform switching of substation feeders. Demonstrate proper handling of equipment while station is in service. Evaluate status of substation with or without help of drawings. Trouble-shoot problems in substation and effectively resolve emergencies in substations. Demonstrate theoretical knowledge of electrical equipment.Circuit Breakers - Test and maintain all sorts of circuit breakers. Perform general trouble-shooting and repairs. Replace basic parts (contacts, closing/tripping coils, shunt trips).Transformers - Apply theory of operation of transformers and knowledge of vectors and angles related to polyphase transformers. Identify tests to be performed on various kinds of transformers. Perform simple analysis of transformers from test reports.Cables - Demonstrate working knowledge of new and in-service cables. Identify various types of cables. Perform hi-pot and insulation testing of all types of cables. Apply standards for testing. Analyze test report to diagnose cable’s condition.Metering - Calibrate substation meters against a standard meter. Demonstrate understanding of vectors and angles related to metering. Connect single and polyphase meters. Make calculations to relate input and output quantities. Conduct point-to-point checks in the field according to shop drawings.Drawings - Draw control schemes. Demonstrate an understanding of current transformer and potential transformer connections for metering and relaying.Test Equipment - Effectively use all substation test equipment (hi-pot, megger, low ohm resistance tester, ground tester, turn ratio tester, resistance tester, power factor tester, high current injection tester, secondary injection tester, relay testers, battery analyzer).Transfer Switches and Emergency Generators - Trouble-shoot generators and transfer switches. Demonstrate understanding of controls and sequence of operations.Substation Batteries - Test batteries and chargers. Effectively use B.I.T.E tester, load testing of batteries. Analyze test results to diagnose battery condition.Basic computer skillsU.S. Government clearance required.
