We have an immediate opening for a Sr. SATCOM Engineer in our Stuttgart, Germany office. This position requires relocation to Stuttgart with occasional travel to existing site facilities throughout Europe. This is a unique opportunity to work in a challenging and rewarding position while living abroad in Europe, with extensive opportunities. This position is responsible for the day to day operations of multiple IP-based satellite networks, to include full end-to-end lifecycle maintenance. This position requires strong technical and troubleshooting skills, as well as the ability to adapt to evolving customer requirements and new technologies.
In addition, the job will include the following responsibilities: Developing, implementing, and maintaining operational procedures Develop and maintain detailed System Administrator manuals for deployable SATCOM systems that includes satellite characteristics, equipment configuration, software configuration, NMS integration, Information Assurance compliance and terrestrial infrastructure. Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) associated with operations in a Network Operations Center.The ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) technical, operational, and other issues with subordinates, peers and superiorsConfiguring network elements and Network Management Systems to maintain high availabilityPerforming fault, performance, security and accounting/utilization monitoring of satellite and terrestrial network infrastructure componentsTesting effectiveness and efficiency of implemented Monitoring PoliciesParticipating in development of monitoring profiles, security policiesProviding regular feedback to design engineers on evolving operational scenariosConducting performance assessments, threat vulnerability assessments, and routine configuration auditsEnsuring compliance with configuration management policies and proceduresPeriodic reviews of policies and procedures to determine effectiveness and accuracyPerforming routine preventive maintenance activitiesEmergency response and advanced troubleshooting for problems that can not be resolved by lower tier personnelAbility to work effectively in a team environment that includes extensive cross training and knowledge sharingRequired Experience
Candidates will be required to operate, maintain, and deploy a multi-vendor environment to include one or more of the following vendor technologies:iDirect satellite hubs and routersLinkway satellite modems
Candidates must have strong skills in all of the following:ing knowledge of satellite networking technologies (DTDMA, DVB, SCPC, etc.) site hardware, concepts, and technologiesof spectrum analyzers for troubleshooting and analysisIP in both static and dynamic routing environmentsCisco routers and switches
In addition, candidates must have strong skills in two or more of the following:Wireless networking technologies (WiFi, WiMax, etc.)Network Management SystemsInformation assurance / network securityTerrestrial WAN circuits and technologiesOne or more Unix operating systems (Linux, Debian, etc.) Windows server applications and back office environments (IIS, Exchange, etc.)Common Internet protocols and services, including DHCP, DNS, E-Mail, WWW, FTP, etc.IP and Routing, basic understanding of traffic classification and prioritization/queuing mechanisms and processing, understanding of Access Control Lists, logging, authentication and authorization, basic knowledge of IPSec and classified encryption protocols
