Over the last several years, BMWC Constructors, Inc. has distinguished itself as one of the premier specialty construction companies in the United States. This recognition reflects the company's: ownership structure; focus on employee development and quality of life; technical expertise; safety record; client relationships and overall stability.
BMWC is 100 percent management-owned. Individuals who achieve designated management roles within the company are invited to participate as equity owners. Management ownership demonstrates that those who contribute to the company's achievement share a stake in the company and benefit from its success. This level of involvement drives greater creativity, initiative, accountability and higher overall performance for customers.
In addition to the financial rewards, equity ownership helps BMWC attract and retain sought-after professionals with in-demand expertise. Because nepotism is not permitted in the company, absentee owners or family interests do not impact management decisions, hiring and promotions. Imagine striving to succeed in your career only to learn that the boss' son or daughter has been promoted ahead of you; this is not a problem at BMWC. An individual's advancement within BMWC is determined solely by their performance and contributions.
Because BMWC is management-owned, the development and advancement of employees is emphasized. For example, Project Engineers are expected to complete a minimum of 80 hours of training each year. The company has a full-time Training Director who coordinates and delivers a variety of instruction curriculums. The company also has a tuition reimbursement program. Professional development is a strategic initiative at BMWC and is viewed as an investment in the company's future success.
Many companies expect employees to forego family and outside interests in order to concentrate on work. BMWC encourages staff members to have a full life outside of the job, not just live to work. The vast majority of BMWC's employees have happy and satisfying relationships, families and hobbies; work compliments their well-rounded lifestyle. Consequently, many BMWC employees have chosen to invest the majority of their working life with the company. This is impressive in an era when career employees are uncommon.
Within the construction industry, there are countless general contractors who focus on the erection of houses, condominiums, offices and other commercial buildings. In this environment, one general builder's expertise is just slightly different than their competitor's. There are also specialty contractors who focus on site development, concrete, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, insulation and other structure components. BMWC specializes in medium to large-scale industrial process and mechanical projects with stringent safety, quality and logistical requirements. This combination of specifications, along with BMWC's reputation for delivering fast-tracked and difficult projects on time, has allowed employees to gain unique skill sets in the construction industry. Consequently, BMWC rarely finds itself on a long list of bidders. Generally speaking, the number of contractors qualified to deliver the caliber and quality of projects that BMWC pursues are few. In fact, the majority of BMWC's projects are negotiated one-on-one with our "alliance" customers, thus greatly minimizing the financial risk inherently associated with the construction industry.
Safety performance is a key factor that has separated BMWC from its competitors. While safety is a common concern among all construction companies, few organizations have identified it as a core business principle. Because of the scope and complexity of projects, BMWC has developed rigorous safety performance systems and training to ensure that worksite injuries do not occur. This approach to safety is based on respect for the welfare of individual workers, their families and the related responsibilities of client companies. BMWC is proud of its safety record and the numerous safety awards it has received from clients, trade associations and governmental agencies.
Stable growth and sustained profitability are not common traits of most construction companies. Construction is typically a cyclic business, with many firms experiencing tremendous swings between booming profitable years and slow difficult years. Under these circumstances, company survival and continued employment are questionable. BMWC, now more than fifty years old, has enjoyed controlled and continuous growth. By concentrating its business model on strong relationships with a prestigious list of long-term "blue-chip" customers, BMWC maintains a consistent backlog of projects. BMWC and its sister company, BMW Constructors, have customers that include Fortune 500 companies such as BP America, Eli Lilly and Company, ExxonMobil, and Boeing. These and other clientele represent the backbone of BMWC's workload and are the key to the company's stability. These best-of-class clients also challenge us to excel through the constant improvement of our processes.
BMWC's core values are: Safety with zero injuries; Customers for life; commitment to personal Integrity; Leadership through continuous improvement and innovation; development and growth of our People; and Profitability. These values are more than just words; they are the bedrock of the culture at BMWC.
BMWC has a rich history of company achievement fueled by the accomplishments of individuals. The reputation of the company is a composite of the dedication, motivation and entrepreneurial passion of its workforce. BMWC attracts the brightest and most ambitious professionals because its business model is based on the evolving success and reward of individual champions.
