Construction Inspector

Responsibilities:
The function of the Construction Inspector is to monitor construction activities and work to ensure quality control and contract compliance for roadway, structure and bridge construction projects of routine to moderate complexity. Working under the direction of a Construction Manager, you will inspect and monitor contractual field work which may include excavations, drainage facilities, road surfaces and structures; schedule work and inspection phases with contractor's superintendent and agency personnel; advise contractor[s] of violations and recommend adjustments to operations; take field measurements of pay items; check placement of and perform tests on construction materials; and oversee and enforce installation of erosion/siltation controls and safety devices. Recommend changes to construction plans to meet field conditions or provide project cost savings. Maintain project records which include daily diaries, materials notebooks, as-built plans, and pay quantity records; evaluate and monitor progress schedules, prepare work orders, and monthly estimates. Three years of construction inspection experience and VDOT Certifications in soils, concrete and asphalt are required.
Qualifications:
Minimum requirements: 2-10 years of construction inspection, civil engineering or related experience. VDOT certification in soils, concrete and asphalt are required. NICET certification desirable.
