Senior Systems Administrator/Supervisor

Information Manufacturing Company (IMC) has a current position opening for a senior IT systems administrator and research laboratory administrator. This position is in support of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) Electronic Records Archive computing facility and research laboratory located at the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory, Rocket Center West Virginia. The NARA ERA facility hosts the Electronic Archives Data Center and a state of the art computational research laboratory. The mission of the NARA ERA Data Center is to provide access to all types of electronic records by anyone, anywhere at any time. The mission of the NARA research laboratory is to explore technologies and processes to ensure preservation of records free of host program dependence, retrievable from organized virtual storage. The System Administrator is responsible for the oversight of maintenance, configuration, installation, and monitoring of servers, workstations and network devices used to support the research laboratory. This person will be required to ensure all systems are monitored, repaired and updated as needed. The Administrator will also ensure the maintenance and upkeep of the Data Center infrastructure including but not limited to: large scale UPS's, a Generator and HVACS. All must be provided at the highest levels of operating capability. Duties: The administration and supervisory duties and responsibilities include:General day to day System Administration for Windows 2003 servers, Windows XP workstations, and Red Hat Linux servers.Oversight and support of workstations, printers and user support activities including but not limited to installation of software on workstations and servers as neededLAN administration including monitoring firewalls for security incidents and performance issuesConfigure and troubleshoot PBX system, and telephonesMaintain detailed configurations for hardware and software components and document standard operating procedures for hardware and software. As acting supervisor of the NARA laboratory the administrator will receive direction from one or more assigned NARA representatives. The administrator will participate in an active role overseeing the activities occurring in support of the research laboratory. In this role the administrator will perform the following functions:Report to an assigned NARA Archivist in support of the Archivists research activities.Provide direction and supervision of the Archivists student research assistants. This work will include the scheduling and monitoring of the student assistants activities.Act as the liaison between on site NARA employees and contractors and IMC's management staffEnsure efficient operations of all lab workstations, printers, servers and communication systems.Research and install tools and programs to further enhance the laboratories activities and goals.Perform other duties requested by NARA Archivists and Researchers as required.Ability to communicate with personnel at any level, novice to technical expert to executive management, works well with others. The ability to manage, support and lead others is required.An educational background in history, sociology or political science is helpful but not required. Candidate should demonstrate the ability to learn new technologies rapidly. The successful candidate must have hands on experience managing Windows and Linux operating systems. Mac OS X experience is helpful. Technical knowledge of communication systems such as switches, routers, and firewalls is required. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other related scientific or technical discipline. Work experience demonstrating technical proficiency may be substituted for education requirements.
