Position Summary
The lab manager position is the technical resource within the Product Management organization whose primary responsibility will be aquiring, maintaining, troubleshooting, automating, documenting, hardware, software, network infrastructure, support contracts, for the F5 customer/partner lab. The lab supports both production systems and customized/flexible temporary testing environments utilized in all other company environments. This position is expected to have significant industry experience with heterogeneous environments and sensitive to customer expectations.
Responsibilities Configure, document and maintain F5 equipment, 3rd party SW, and network infrastructure for Customer facing Technology Center lab. Create scripts to optimize and automate the configuration and usability. Coordinate the replication of network environments for engineers to prototype customer installations. Troubleshooting lab network outages and problems. Documenting procedures for and Maintaining the Image Servers, Client Side Applications Servers and Server Application Servers. Procure new equipment and software to stay on top of new technology. Windows node installation, maintenance, upgrades, and recovery UNIX/LINUX node installation, maintenance, upgrades, and recovery Maintain the lab intranet site Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Bachelor degree in computer/engineering related field or equivalent work experience. 5+ years professional experience in a Windows and Linux/UNIX environment. 5+ years experience running and maintaining network lab. Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking and layer 7 protocols. Fluent in various scripting languages for lab automation. Knowledge of underlying web technologies including HTTP, HTML, and JavaScript. Knowledge of networking products such as routers, firewalls, vpns. Knowledge of Windows and Linux/UNIX servers. Ability to rapidly adopt new technologies. Excellent communication, problem solving, planning and organization skills. Proven ability to deliver products with highest quality and on time. Demonstrable appreciation for customer experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Duties are performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table. Duties require the ability to utilize a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material. Duties may require being on call periodically and working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends). Duties may require the ability to travel via automobile or airplane, approximately 10% of the time spent traveling. Position will require the ability to lift into place and install various network hardware into Telco racks. Position requires the ability to utilize a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone and read printed material. Duties may require being on call, and periodically working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends).
