We are currently seeking a Research Engineer located at our corporate headquarters in Racine, WI. In this role, you will plan and and perform laboratory studies, process experiments and quality test methods. Leads projects and/or people as part of an integrated cross functional team, participating in customer trials, first production runs, and process design for new products. Will assemble process equipment to complete experiments and use experimental results to write specifications for manufacturing process equipment. Other functions include project reporting, recording data, calculations and preparing reports covering work. -Major responsibilities: · Independently designs experiments to optimize processing of new products. · Leads projects and/or people as part of an integrated/cross functional project team. This includes working with manufacturing personnel to assess capabilities and translating the process information into equipment specifications. · Works closely with Polymer sourcing and R&D to apply new technologies to floor care systems. · Works closely with Product Innovation to design new Wax Emulsions. · Records detailed observations and data from experiments performed, makes routine calculations. Keeps lab notebook records current and in good order as a working legal document. · Plans and schedules project tasks related to processing experiments and sample preparation. · Reports project status to team members and management as required. · Responsible for planning, preliminary interpretation and presentation of data. · Contributes to the solution of assigned projects by suggesting modifications in processing equipment or procedures. · Stay current on mixing and process equipment that is applicable to JDI products. · Assist department staff on the set up of experiments and sample preparation. · Operates and maintains equipment in performing assigned experiments and makes minor repairs or tune control loops. · Responsible for safe working conditions in the pilot plant and highlighting safety information on new materials to manufacturing S/H/E representative for the site. · Is aware of the hazards associated with the work assigned (pressure reactors, Lock Out/Tag Out, Confined Space, Flammable liquids, Oxidizer and other). · Responsible for following all applicable Federal, State, and Local health, and safety and environmental regulations, as per corporate health, safety, and environmental policies. Responsibilities include regional travel to support production requirements of contract manufacturers and JDI manufacturing sites. -Minimum requirements: · Four year college chemical engineering degree. Relevant coatings, emulsion polymer or floor care experience will be strongly taken into consideration. · Computer skills including work processing spreadsheets and databases are required. · Strong communication skills are required, the position involves working across all R&D, internal manufacturing plants and external contract manufacturing facilities. · Very strong mechanical skills and knowledge of process equipment. · Design of experiments to evaluate discrete and non-discrete variables. · Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills. -Preferred requirements: Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering Advanced knowledge of mixing or manufacturing experience is preferred. Physical requirements are (e.g. Ability to lift 30lbs): Ability to lift 50lbs. Ability to work in a laboratory and production environment.
