Power Plant Engineer, - Salary: ~$85K/yr -  Los Angeles area

 

Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for an experienced Sr. Process Engineer at its Power Plant facility. 

The Power Plant Engineer is responsible for providing the technical and engineering support required for all aspects of the operation, maintenance, performance evaluation, capitol improvements, and outage planning and implementation for a 60mw solid fuel fired power generating facility. The Power Plant Engineer will monitor and evaluate operations data, and issue required reports and analysis to plant management. This position coordinates with the Maintenance Team in recommending improvements and changes that are designed to increase plant performance, reduce costs, and increase equipment life.

Qualifications:

- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree preferred

- Prior experience with electrical power and associated process equipment, or held positions in the areas of power plant operations, maintenance, or results engineering is desired.

The incumbent will manage and lead a group of process engineers and engineering technicians who will support production of electronics grade high purity Schumacher-brand products across the globe to ensure that consistent processes are used, and that all quality and safety standards are upheld. The incumbent is expected to maintain and build a strong, cohesive organization that keeps production running 24/7, that continuously optimize production systems to lower cost, produce more consistent products, and response to supplier and market demands quickly.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Keep production running 24/7, meeting safety, quality and production metrics

2. Manage optimization efforts in asset management & CI

3. Manage effort to support production trouble-shooting world-wide

4. Manage OPHR and ensure consistent processes and safety standards apply across all locations

5. Schedule and manage PM program
6. Review, approve and keep current all process and operation documentations

7. The ideal candidate should have extensive process design experience to supervise process design for new manufacturing assets

The incumbent should have a B.S. or M.S. in chemical or mechanical engineering, and have 15+ years experience in a high purity specialty chemicals production, or a custom manufacturing environment, including significant supervisory experience. Expertise in distillation is highly desirable, as is process design experience in high purity purification systems.

Will be mentored for several months by existing Plant Manager who is moving to another role at the site.  Since this is a new business line for the company and a small plant beginning, candidates who are entrepreneurial, and seeking new challenges in growing a business will be best.

 

ANY SULFUR related chemistry/process experience is REQUIRED.

Process / Project Engineer  -  $75 – 120K  -  Cedar Rapids, Iowa

 

Need experience with Ammonia, Nitrogen, preferably Nitrogen based fertilizers.

 

Will identify and implement major plant production upgrade projects.  Includes front end engineering design through field construction.  Specify process equipment and perform process heat and material balances.  Troubleshoot process problems and implement solutions to ensure production continues in a safe, compliant, and reliable manner.

 

Requires BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering and five (5) years experience in the chemical process industry.  Requires extensive experience in the tracking and identification of process performance issues and implementation of corrective actions to maintain optimum process efficiency and production. Thorough knowledge of process equipment used in the production of nitrogen based fertilizers is needed.

 

Reports to: Technical Manager -  Works with: Engineers, Shift Supervisors, Operators, Production Managers, and Reliability Engineers.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

- Work with internal personnel and external contract engineering personnel to identify opportunities to improve process performance.

- Implement projects by working through all phases including scheduling, procurement and construction management.

- Develop and maintain knowledge of capital cost estimating skills.

- Develop expertise on failure analysis and provide engineered solutions to remedy problems.

- Develop and maintain knowledge of environmental permitting and compliance requirements.

- Maintain plant knowledge base for process equipment.

- Develop knowledge of  non-destructive testing techniques

- Prepare and review new equipment specifications to insure they meet intended service and operability requirements

- Troubleshoot and recommend solutions to recurring process problems.

- Provide field supervision support on critical equipment failure investigations.

-. Act as consultant to operations personnel on specific process and production problems.

- Develop expertise on critical pieces of equipment.

 

Most time is spent in an office environment. However, the job does require involvement and presence in all areas of the facility. These can include high noise, high temperature, and low light areas. They can be indoor or outdoor.

 

 

 

Senior Process Controls Engineer  - Northeast

Must have Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and 5+ years of process engineering.  Will provide recommendations for improving process control and instrumentation. Function as a troubleshooter and provides forward thinking and technological advancement that will provide a competitive edge. Perform system analysis, improvement, scoping studies, front-end design work, and/or collaborates on designs with contractors and consultants.  Also, troubleshoots and maintains DCS (Foxboro I/A). Performs routine hardware and software maintenance of Foxboro DCS systems. Provide startup assistance and control modifications of Foxboro DCS systems. Develops and implements process control schemes and control techniques. Designs control systems for all types of refinery equipment and processes. Tunes existing process controllers. Develops and reviews control logic on PLCs. Performs economic evaluations on project scoping and lookback efforts. Develops scope for control and advanced process control projects. Maintains and optimizes advanced process control programs. Manages DCS and Advanced Control contractors. Assists process engineers in unit troubleshooting.  Excellent oral and written communications skills required to assist in development and delivery of presentations. Ability to establish and maintain positive business relationships with internal and external customers.

B.S. in Electrical Engineering and have at least 1 year of electrical engineering experience in the refining/petrochemical industry.  In addition, individual must be familiar with electrical and instrument codes and specifications.

 

Individual will support and/or manage electrical and/or instrumentation engineering on capital and expense E&I projects such as installation of motor controls, switch gear, transformers, protected relaying, in-line instruments, analyzers, safety instrumented systems, etc.  Individual will also support power distribution and instrumentation troubleshooting efforts by other departments.  Typical activities range from providing technical assistance to coordinating new systems associated with capital investments.  Emphasis is placed on ensuring reliability in the instrument and electrical distribution systems.

BSME with 3+ years experience in an operating company environment.  Petrochemical - Oil Refining industries preferred, but other manufacturing environments will be considered.  Will support plant operations and maintenance groups working on everything related to rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, turbines, etc.).  Need knowledge of lube oil sampling program, centrifugal compressor rotors in all units (Alky, Coker, FCC, Hydrocracker, etc.), metallurgy of liquid ring compressors parts (part of the marine and pump and seal basics), Work with maintenance crafts pulling, overhauling, filling out repair history cards, and installing pumps in the field. Perform equipment inspection checks in the field (vibration readings, pipe strain, laser alignment, identifying seal flush plans, other visual checks). Previous Service Engineer experience a highly desired asset.

Process Improvement Engineer – Need several!  Houston, TX  -  $120K

 

B.S. Chemical Engineering; 10-20 years of experience out of continuous chemicals such as chlorine, petroleum, fatty acids, polyethylene, and polypropylene. Distillation columns experience highly preferred, it will be tough to get in without it. This engineer should have process optimization experience and be a good hands-on plant engineer.

 

This engineer will work in a 250-person fatty acids/continuous splitting facility. This facility is presently converting from coal-fired boilers to gas-fired boilers. This plant is DCS controlled and has 4 large distillation columns using steam jets, economizers. This facility produces $1/2 million in product every day and is expanding. This position will be a hands-on position to help improve process reliability and reduce downtime. A minority of the time, this engineer will do some day-to-day support activities.
