Education, Training and Experience:
(5 + yr. min. experience or accelerated OJT in lieu of 5 yr.)
Technical Writing experience
Experience writing operating/maintenance procedures
Experience reviewing P & ID’s - AutoCAD/Other
Experience with or exposure to Natural Gas Processing - Cryogenics, Molecular Sieve Dehydration, Glycol Dehydration, Amine, Reverse Osmosis, All Types of Compression, Utilities.
Plant Operator certification or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required. Bachelor’s degree in engineering is desirable but not required (Chem E/ME/EE are a plus)
Excellent demonstrable technical writing skills required.
Five (5) years experience in operations, maintenance, or engineering as an Operator, technician, or supervisor in a large natural gas processing plant, acid gas removal plant, including experience in technical writing. Should be computer literate and competent in word processing and spreadsheets.
Certifications or Licenses:
Operator certification desirable.
Requirements:
Previous technical writing experience
Ability to read and interpret drawings and technical manuals
A strong background in Instrumentation, Electrical or Mechanical equipment.
Strong background in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Sequel Server.
Familiar with data development of locations, equipment, inventory, spare parts, job plans, PM scheduling.
Knowledge of drawings P&ID's, Electrical diagrams, etc.
Knowledge of applicable Federal Regulations - PSM (OSHA) / RMP (EPA) / DOT.
Knowledge of Mechanical Integrity development / implementation strategies
Ability to travel
Bachelor's degree strongly preferred, not required
Laptop Computer with XP Pro 2003 or greater with MS Word and Excel 2003

General:
Writes standard operating procedures / maintenance procedures and training used in the operation of natural gas plants, related equipment, and facilities.
1. Researches, develops, and writes technically sound procedures that are consistent, clear, and concise, using design, manufacturer, engineering, and other sources of information.
2. Interprets schematics, diagrams, blueprints, and uses technical expertise to field verify equipment and system operation.
3. Interacts with field personnel, supervisors, and engineers to utilize their information, experience and expertise.
4. Verifies and evaluates obtained information for applicability, accuracy, and safety.
5. Assures that documents conform to appropriate industry standards and meets the requirement of the district’s contract with the federal government.
6. Reviews all equipment and system modifications and additions in order to revise procedures to conform to current conditions.
7. Maintains and updates necessary reference materials.
8. Extract technical information from manuals and drawings, interviews, review plant item information and produce task instructions from these activities.
9. Build Web-based Instruction / Testing

Physical Demands:
The essential job requirements involve sitting for long periods of time including occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling (in any combination thereof) of objects up to 26 pounds and the use of repetitive hand and wrist movements to enter alpha and numeric data into a computer, including the ability to grasp and manipulate work objects. Must have the ability to perform plant 'walk-through' interviews. Minimal climbing required.
Essential to this position is corrected or non-corrected vision. Persons in this position must be able to see, read, edit and interpret multicolored text and symbols on a color terminal screen. Must be able to read SOP documents, memoranda, written and printed instructions, phone directories, graphs, tables, diagrams, fine print and various colors.
Also essential to this position is corrected or non-corrected hearing which is necessary for the ability to hear voice communications, telephone communications and two-way radio communications and computer generated audible sounds with an assisted or unassisted hearing device. When utilizing or working in the vicinity of vehicles, must be able to hear to assure that employee safety precautions are met and road safety laws are followed.
A valid driver’s license is an essential job requirement. Persons in this position must have the ability to see and to hear in order to drive a vehicle on improved and unimproved roads. In addition, they must assure that road safety laws and road safety precautions are followed.
Work Environment:
The majority of work time is spent working inside in either a single-level or upper-level structured office building, which is heated, air-conditioned and smoke-free. Persons in this position may conduct business out of the office, which may require driving a vehicle on improved and unimproved roadways. Outside working conditions are dependent on the weather, which involves extreme heat in the summer (temperatures over 100 degrees) and cold in the winter (temperatures below freezing). Some work visitations may be required at the gas plants. The gas plants and office structures are normally heated and cooled. Noise levels are generally minimal, however, they can be excessive for brief periods of time. The person in this position moves about using various conveyances such as an elevator, stairway, and/or walk ramp. Persons in this position may have exposure to flora, fauna and the natural habitat of the desert environment.
